The “Netflix” of real estate

In the 135th episode of Cash Flow Pro, we talk with Kris Bennett of PassiveInvesting.com. Kris first tapped into real estate in 2007 when he got his license as a residential broker. By 2008/2009, he worked in foreclosure, anticipating the impending recession. Cash was king, and loans were hard to get. These hard times left a bad taste in his mouth, so he decided to return to school.

He began to take real estate classes at UNC’s business school. After school, he took an internship working for a guy who specialized in buying apartments, making him aware of the possibilities in real estate. Instead of buying one door at a time, he could fundraise and buy 150!

After the internship, he became Director of Acquisitions, which meant he found deals to buy. As the economy prepared to change, the whole company pivoted into self-storage. Today we will cover how self-storage could arguably be the most stable real estate asset.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • What is self-storage and why do people need it
  • The flexibility and adaptability of self-storage as a real estate asset
  • Self-storage deals, markets, and operations
  • Raising capital for self-storage
