Just thought I would add a few more recommendations that my 5 year old daughter loves.
1) Incan Gold: while she may not fully understand the actual probability of the 30 cards in the deck -- her hunches are generally correct.
2) Life Boats: while it may seem odd to toss your five year old over, she won\\\'t hesitate to the same to you. I think it also teaches her to be a good loser and not to take things personally. Oh yeah, and it gives her a chance to use her girlish charm \\\"oh, you don\\\'t want to throw the baby over do you\\\" as the eyes are batting. Of course, we generally respond with \\\"don\\\'t worry, the sharks won\\\'t eat you because you\\\'re spoiled.\\\"
3) Winner\\\'s Circle: she love\\\'s horses and this fits the bill. A young one cannot comprehend the weighted averages of each horse, but they can still make decent bets and determine which horse to move to help their cause. This is also an example of when the \\\"kid\\\" in the game can be a wild card for the adults. We have fun explaining the tactical options to her and then make a case why she should help or hurt Dad, Mom, Grandma, etc...
4) Elk Fest: give the little one three flicks to your two.
5) Blue Moon City: she can play the \\\"mechanics\\\" of the game. The strategic side may take a few more years, but she loves moving the dragons and collecting scales.
6) Snorta: this is a fun game that adults and kids can play, and the littles really crack-up to see the big folks act like kids.
