Dec 29, 2020   RC wants to show people that this evidence is everywhere around them, as we converge once again on Central New York State and the Finger Lakes / Lake Ontario region to explore the many glacio-fluvial features, many possibly the result of another proposed impact that created the Rochester Basin. With extensive use of the USGS National Map browser, RC ventures west into central Michigan’s Saginaw Lobe and Grand Valley flood channel, then further west to the many features related to the formation and catastrophic outflow of glacial Lake Wisconsin. We consider the accumulation of ice and glacier flow/spread, the differences between living and dead ice, flood and megaflood events of scaling magnitude, and the amazing opportunity that we have to study – with our modern tools of observation – a multi-million-year event that transpired very recently in Earth’s geological history.
