Marine Mammal Science

Apr 5, 2020

This week, Chris Parsons’ guest is Dr. Peter Corkeron - the first Australian to get a PhD on the biology of living cetaceans - in a slightly different type of episode in light of the difficult times we are having at the moment. Peter talks about how the life of a marine mammal scientist often does not go as planned and talks honestly about the sometimes twisting and tortuous route his career took and personal crises he faced, together with some hilarious anecdotes and some sage advice for potential marine mammal scientists.

Apart from dolphins & whales, this podcast contains romance, attempted murder, a spy plane, and a spot of lifesaving. Chris and Peter discuss “do whales eat all the fish, how the Tangalooma dolphin feeding station came to be and swap quotes from Professor Dumbledore and Marcus Aurelius.
