Daval, was found dead. M de Gevres was unharmed, but a man was seen on the grounds carrying something. Before he got too far, he was shot by a witness from the house. He apparently remained trapped in the grounds, but was never discovered. Young Isidore Beautrelet, a local student, posed as a local journalist, and seemed to have a peculiarly intimate knowledge of the case. Let’s see what he can tell us.
