Jesus tells us the parable of the Rich Fool in Luke 12. There was a rich man who had stored up his riches on earth. He was prepared for retirement, but he was not rich towards God. He deceived himself into thinking his life was his own and he did not have to answer to his Creator. He died unexpectedly and he was not prepared to meet his God. Similarly in Amos 4, the prophet, Amos warned the Northern Kingdom of Israel that they needed to prepare to meet their God. The Northern Kingdom was in great apostasy and God had sent famine, drought, locust, plagues and even war to warn the people to repent of their sins. However, they refused to repent. So God warned them in Amos 4:12b,"Israel, prepare to meet your God," (NIV).
