![]() Black male students from grades 8-10 will have the opportunity to network and learn about future academic pathways and positive transitions at The Cypher: Black Male Empowerment Conference. The conference, set to take place May 24, 2017, will offer students and faculty in attendance a unique learning environment and the chance to meet community leaders. Keynote speaker, Dwayne Morgan, will address the audience in the morning. The local award winning spoken word poet will share his story that focuses on everyday excellence. Francis Asheri will serve as the alumni youth speaker for the event. The former DDSB student trustee from Ajax HS won the TD Scholarship for Community Leadership in 2014. Durham District School Board alumni, teachers and community members will lead presentations throughout the day. A variety of presentations include “February is Black History Month – What Should I Be Getting Out of This?” and “#Blackmencarefree – What Lebron, Kendrick and the 13th can teach us about Masculinity in 2017” as well as many others. Charles Senior and Dwayne Hartley from the Durham District School Board were on our show to talk about The Cypher: Black Male Empowerment Conference.
