Tylisha and I had a great conversation about how her and her husband paid off their debt then co-founded SpenDebt. SpenDebt allows you to crush your debt with every purchase using micropayments. Tylisha Summers is an entrepreneur and champion for equity and inclusion for black and brown founders. Her and her husband are the co-founders of SpenDebt, a financial technology company whose mission is to save one million people from financial fatalities every time they swipe their debit card or have a banking transaction. SpenDebt’s app launched in 2018 while raising over $250K through pitch competitions and several accelerator investments, and earned Capital One as their payment processor. To date, SpenDebt has helped consumers pay off credit cards, student loans, auto loans, medical debt and the like, averaging over $80 per month per user. Tylisha also works full-time as a chemical engineer in the oil and gas industry and has done so for the past 12 years. She has resided in Houston for the past 9 years where she has served as Director of a non-profit organization, G.Y.R.L.S., mentoring underrepresented teenage girls, a Junior Achievement volunteer tutoring students in the Greater Houston community, serves on the board of directors for a non-profit crowdfunding for college students and a chartering member of the Houston chapter of Black Girl Ventures, an organization that provides access to social and financial capital to black and brown women founders, as well as a host of other service activities.
