Footy Prime The Podcast

Aug 23, 2022

On this week's interview series episode, James Sharman, Jimmy Brennan, Brendan Dunlop and Craig Forrest catch up with Craig's old Ipswich Town and Canadian men's national team teammate Frank Yallop. They laugh about the good old days and what it would take for Ipswich to make it back to the Premier League, their experiences with Sir Bobby Robson, and some coaches that taught Frank exactly how not to coach.

Managing David Beckham when he arrived in Major League Soccer and the challenges that presented for an LA Galaxy organization that wasn't quite prepared for just how Hollywood things would get with Becks now MLS' star attraction, made for some great conversation. If you listen closely you can hear how envious Jimmy, Sharms and Dunny were to hear that Frank was rubbing elbows with Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Brooke Shields and countless Hollywood A-listers.

Now the head coach and sporting director at USL Championship club Monterey Bay FC, Frank talks about the growth of the sport in the United States and the fulfillment he gets from building teams from the ground up. As well as the pathway that exists for Canadian Premier League players, like Morey Doner who joined MBFC this season, and how well he thinks CanMNT will do in Qatar with stars like Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David, under the guidance of John Herdman.
