The church must serve earthly needs with compassion, but never neglect the greater mission of preaching the gospel, calling people to repentance, and inviting them into the family of God through the Holy Spirit.
Acts 6 does not teach the church to choose between feeding people and preaching the Word. It teaches the church to organize itself so that both happen faithfully. The widows needed food, but the whole community still needed the Word of God. Earthly resources can relieve suffering, but only the gospel can bring repentance, adoption, salvation, and new life in the Holy Spirit.
