In this second of a special two-parter on the
work of Yosh Han, a scent artist known for her elaborate moving
image landscapes and public sculptures, we talk about the matter of
olfactory energetics. Yosh has a unique vantage on the global
landscape of the fragrance industry, and her ongoing work to
decolonise the fragrance Industry is the subject this time.
This episode is anchored in her work with the Scent Festival
platform and her pursuit to address its "O" word terminology. But
it also points out the greater systematic connections between
Eurocentric fragrance naming, material sourcing, and capitalism,
which impacts wealth and power dynamics in the fragrance
industry.
Her collaboration of the senses in future-focused olfactory
projects unveils multisensory experiences to better know our world,
and ourselves.
