Thrive: Mental Health and the Art of Living Free

Jun 25, 2021

This week on Counselor on Call, we are talking about exhaustion and weariness.*

According to the American Psychological Association, Americans are more stressed and tired than ever. Here are some symptoms you may experience when feeling weary and exhausted:

  • Isolating for people or activities
  • Foggy brained
  • Experiencing physical symptoms like heart palpitations, headaches, difficulty sleeping
  • Lacking joy
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Becoming irritated easily
  • Feeling unmotivated

After you identify how you are exhausted ask yourself these 3 questions:

  1. What am I needing? Process with a loved one, God, or your counselor about ways to care for yourself.
    1. Explore your mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and physical needs How can I fulfill this need? Start with the easiest, quickest, simplest options. Try drinking water, breathing, taking breaks from social media
  2. What can I do to prevent future exhaustion? Make a list of what fills your tank and what empties your tank. Make an effort to create boundaries on what empties your tank and be intentional about filling your tank. Read Leading on Empty
