We all get to feeling weary at some point. It doesn't matter how
strong or enthusiastic you normally are – at some point. it all
gets too much. “What’s the matter with me?”
I went through a phase several months back where I just felt washed
out, completely drained. My normal vim and vigour had gone missing.
And it wasn’t because things weren’t going well in my life. It’s
just that my enthusiasm seemed to have evaporated.
So, please … understand it’s not just you. It happens to all of us.
And when it does, we tend to go looking for answers: maybe I need a
holiday, or maybe I should change jobs, or … but rarely do we go
looking for the real answer – in the right place.
Isaiah 40:30,31Even youths shall faint
and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait
for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with
wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk
and not faint. (ESV)
Do you see? Exhaustion happens even to the strongest and most
vigorous among us: youths and young men. And no amount of
holidaying, resting, or anything else that this world has to offer
is going to fix the problem. Only this: wait for the Lord.
And that word there – wait – means literally to wait expectantly;
to wait in faith; to wait with a sense of anticipation of what
God’s going to do. Rest and wait on Him… and you’ll renew your
strength. You’ll mount up with wings like eagles. You’ll ran
run and not grow weary. You’ll walk and not faint.
Wait expectantly.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
