In this episode I have a casual chat with Claire-Louise McCracken from Carers and Advocates Australia about all things NDIS.
Claire is the mother of 4 children with one with autism and 3 who are neurodivergent. Claire considered studiy psychology at Flinders University and home schooled all her children on a farm, as well as her search for belonging. She shares stories I am sure many participants and providers can relate to.
Claire shares her experience with carers claim to be their to "change her world" when it should be a case of "show me don't tell me". She shares the fun with children, partners and participants as well as lows of struggles dealing with the hospital system with those who have a disability. We also discuss the fun carers can have with participants with the support of organisations like Sailability.
We talk about the contaversual pending compulsory registration. We also talk about opinions on the NDIS, how to treat people with disabilities, and self direction.
We chat about choice and control - what is it and is it really what the NDIS is all about?
