Addiction is a gradual narrowing of focus. Fewer things have the ability to make you genuinely happy. And over time, more of your thoughts, feelings and behaviors become automated stress responses.
But being "stuck" in a habit is an illusion. The brain is plastic--constantly changing. A basic awareness of how the brain responds to stimuli allows you to direct the changes in your brain instead of remaining at the mercy of subconscious urges.
In this episode, I'll show you how to interrupt the "shame and blame" response that perpetuates addiction so that you can move into the "expect and detect" mindset of recovery. Reframing mental health issues as something from which it's possible to recover is key.
As mentioned @ the 9:55 minute mark, click here to watch the 4-second video that shows two neurons reaching for and attaching to each other to convey a chemical message. This is what "meaning" looks like in the brain. It's beautiful! https://youtu.be/FWr6DXDhQx8
