Elev8 Your Life with Kristi

May 2, 2023

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so, tune into today's Elev8 Your Life with Kristi podcast to hear more about why mental health really does matter.  Today, we are going to talk about how to recognize some of the signs of emotional or psychological stress, how to talk with someone you care about who may be experiencing emotional distress, and how to access mental health resources for yourself or someone else.

If you or someone you know need support and resources related to mental health issues, here are some places that can help:

  • If it is an emergency, call 911 immediately.
  • In cases where someone feels suicidal, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline can be reached by calling or texting 988. They provide 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources, and best practices for professionals in the United States.
  • You also can text the word HOME to the Crisis Text Line at 741741 from anywhere in the United States, anytime. A trained Crisis Counselor receives the text and responds, all from a secure online platform.
  • Consult with your healthcare provider, because sometimes an underlying physical condition could be causing or exacerbating mental health issues.
  • The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration’s National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7, 365-day-a-year treatment referral and information service for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders.
  • You can look into if your employer offers an Employee Assistance Program.
  • Many schools and universities offer mental health services, as do some religious organizations.
