Journalists searched a hospital in Lebanon that the Israeli government said was being used by Hezbollah, and found that it was just a normal civilian hospital. In October of 2023, Israel bombed the al-Shifa hospital in northern Gaza. Although bombing hospitals is a common procedure for the Israeli army, the increased media attention since October 7th 2023 resulted in public outrage regarding the bombing of al-Shifa. Israel had claimed that the hospital was actually secretly a headquarters for Hamas, but investigations after the bombing concluded that there was no evidence for the claims. In recent weeks, Israel has also bombed several hospitals in Lebanon. On Monday, Israel made a similar claim that Al Sahel Hospital in Beirut was “Hezbollah’s private shelter” and that it held “hundreds of millions of dollars in paper money and gold.” However, because Israel is unable to ban journalists from Lebanon in the same way it does in Gaza, journalists simply visited the hospital and conducted a search. Journalists from various news agencies, with their camera teams, confirmed that there is no evidence for Israel’s claims and that Al Sahel is just a normal civilian hospital.
