After Iran retaliated against Israel for the April 1st attack last week, US officials announced that they had reached a deal with Israel; the US would agree to support Israel’s invasion of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, in exchange for Israel agreeing to stop attacking Iran. Israel’s attack on Iran, therefore, appears to be a violation of that agreement, but many experts, including Mairav Zonszein, a senior Israel analyst for the International Crisis Group say that the agreement was mostly a media spectacle as opposed to serious foreign policy. If Israel continues to attack Iran, it could trigger a war between the US and Iran, due to US support for Israel and the existing tension between the US and Iran. In other news, a report by ProPublica shows that several months ago, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken received information from the State Department about specific Israeli military units that were confirmed to be committing human rights abuses including murder, torture, and sexual abuse of a teenager, but Blinken has chosen to ignore the reports.
