Estudiantes universitarios de todo el país se han unido al movimiento de protesta en solidaridad con Palestina. University students around the country have joined the protest encampment movement in solidarity with Palestine. Last week, students at Columbia university set up an encampment on campus to protest the genocide in Gaza, and police responded by arresting over 100 students. Since then, protest encampments have been set up at Harvard, Yale, UC Berkeley, Cal Poly, MIT, Tufts, NYU, Brown University, and many more. Critics say that the protests are dangerous because they create violence against Jewish people. However, according to the Anti Defamation League, the most active pro-Israel organization in the US, 100% of hate crimes against Jewish people in the US between 2002 and 2023 were committed by groups or individuals with right wing politics, and zero were committed by groups with left wing politics or by Arabs or Muslims. After October 7th, the Anti Defamation League changed its criteria for what constitutes a hate crime to include any anti-Zionist slogans or chants. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netenyahu, who is currently carrying out a genocide that the students are protesting, said that the protests are “horrific” and that “antisemitic mobs” are taking over the universities.
