El miércoles, Charlie Kirk, uno de los influencers derechistas más importantes del internet, fue tiroteado durante su presentación en la Universidad de Utah Valley. El incidente fue grabado en directo por canales oficiales y por personas que transmitían el evento en sus celulares. Al momento de escribir esta noticia, se desconoce su estado de salud y si se ha detenido a algún sospechoso, pero se sabe que la sola bala fue disparada desde un edificio a cientos de metros del escenario donde él se encontraba. Kirk es el fundador de Turning Point USA, una organización sin fines de lucro que promueve la ideología de derecha en escuelas, colegios y universidades. Se hizo famoso por sus controvertidos y polémicos comentarios de derecha, así como por sus vídeos de YouTube en los que debate con estudiantes progresistas en campus universitarios. Se le atribuye a Kirk haber contribuido a que la administración Trump lograra atraer el voto joven. Sobre el control de armas, Kirk declaró: «Creo que vale la pena asumir el costo de, lamentablemente, algunas muertes por armas de fuego cada año, para poder mantener la Segunda Enmienda y así proteger nuestros derechos fundamentales».
On Wednesday, Charlie Kirk, one of the largest right wing influencers on the Internet, was shot during his presentation at Utah Valley University. Video footage of the incident was captured live by official channels as well as individuals live-streaming the event via their phones. At the time of this writing it is unclear what his condition is and whether a suspect has been arrested, but it is known that the single bullet that hit him was shot from a building hundreds of yards from the stage where he was sitting. Kirk is the founder of Turning Point USA, a nonprofit organization that advocates for right wing politics on high school, college, and university campuses. He became famous for his controversial and divisive right wing commentary, and for his YouTube videos in which he debates progressive students on college campuses. Kirk is often credited with helping the Trump administration attract young voters. Regarding gun control, Kirk famously said "I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.”
