Is it just us, or is *everyone* talking about Heated Rivalry?! Well, hopefully it's not just us, because on this week's duo ep of the Legendary Ladies Podcast, Kat and Amy return to discuss the entire season of the hit HBO show. They chat about how the pacing of the show created a world where fans got just what they wanted, without there ever being a point of "too much of a good thing", how the characters evolved of the season, and what predictions they have for season two. Amy, Kat, and Morgan (who were simply agog and obsessed with Wicked Part I) have plenty to discuss, including the most important point - did Part II hold up? The hosts chat about whether or not the general public vs. theater fans could approach the movie differently, as an "Act II" rather than simply another movie. They also talk about the lack of a "viral" factor - how come, a month after Part I, the Loathing choreography was still making the rounds around the internet, but 3 weeks after Part II, the world seems to all but moved on from Wicked. Finally, the hosts give their honest opinions about the film, the performances, and the phenomenon in general.

At the internet’s behest, Kat and Amy sat down to watch the first episode of “Heated Rivalry”, the queer sports series that is taking HBO Max by storm. The Legendary Ladies step into the show blind, with only a marginal idea of what they were getting into - and they were absolutely thrilled. The hosts chat about how the series feels like a genuine translation of a book to screen, the tasteful artistry of the sexual depictions, and discuss the queer aspects of the show that can invite audiences of all types to consume the series.

It's time for Amy's spooky season pick - and we don't really mind that it is halfway through November. As anyone who listens to the podcast (or knows Amy at all) could guess, she was so excited to watch Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein; it is not, however, Kat's cup of tea (again, as you all should know). But that doesn't really matter, because as it turns out, Amy can talk about the film for literally 45 minutes almost entirely on her own. It's a fascinating look into the brain of two storytellers, one who loves gothic horror, and the other who may not love, but deeply respects it. Explore the anagories, deep dive into the nuance of Intention, and join the hosts as they explore the film that Guillermo Del Toro has been waiting to make since his childhood.

Join The Legendary Ladies (sans Morgan) for a quick pilot-pod of The Diplomat, starring Kerri Russel and Rufus Sewell. A show that Amy has watched all three seasons of, she wasn't quite sure that Kat would be interested. The Legendary Ladies are back with one of their best Spooky Season's yet! For Morgan's pick, the hosts watched Sinners (some when it came out earlier this year, and some the night before they recorded). The ladies discuss what made Sinners such a successful film, what it means to have the name of Ryan Coogler on your project, the power of music in filmmaking, and whether or not Sinners needs a sequel (which, if it happens, should absolutely be named Saints). 

They are BACK!! On this week's The Legendary Ladies Podcast, Amy, Morgan, and Kat return from their summer hiatus to review Netflix's "The Hunting Wives" (which, incidentally, was exactly nothing that Amy thought it was). The trio discuss the differences made from the book to the series, what about the show makes it so watchable, and discuss the power of the queer aspect of the show. It's another legendary interview! On this week's The Legendary Ladies podcast Amy, Kat, and Morgan are joined by Tim Seeley, co-creator of the horror comic series "Revival" - the television adaptation of which has just started on SyFy starring Melanie Scrofano. The hosts discuss everything from the creation of the original comic, what it's like seeing your work on the big screen, and whether it's difficult to see your work modified for a different medium.

On this week's The Legendary Ladies Podcast, Amy and Morgan eagerly sat down to watch Bong Joon Ho's film, Mickey 17. But...did they just as eagerly sit down to discuss it? Unfortunately, that wasn't necessarily the case as the hosts work to break down why Mickey 17 didn't just do it for them. They discussed the overwhelming amount of social commentary -- not in its essential nature, or even its essence -- but in the sheer number of bullet points. While it fits the commentary on a world (*cough* currently *cough*) oversaturated with social and political challenges, when introduced congruently with the new and unique technology that is the cornerstone of Mickey 17's titular plot point, did the bloated nature of the film's various storylines detract from the one we might have been most interested in?

And, without getting too far ahead of ourselves, can we ask...what was Kai there for? No, seriously, we're asking.

All in all, the hosts sit down for a rather unexpectedly productive discussion as they try to figure out if Robert Pattinson's superb acting was enough to keep their interest during the [over] 2 hour film.

Amy and Morgan are alone this episode while Kat takes the week off…and to be honest, she probably got the better part of the deal. Why? Because she didn’t have to watch the Suits LA premiere (we’re loath to call it a pilot, as it hardly resembles one).

On this duo episode, the hosts break down and analyze the first episode of the new series that comes with the Suits name, but bears little resemblance to the clever and classy writing of the original series. Amy and Morgan chat about how difficult it was to follow along on the bloated episode, whether or not the flashbacks served any purpose, and try to understand why they felt absolutely nothing for the characters.

The Legendary Ladies are back, and thrilled to discuss the action-romance-horror film The Gorge, directed by Scott Derrickson. Starring Miles Teller and Anya Tayor-Joy, the film follows two snipers assigned to guard a massive canyon known as "The Gorge"...and keep whatever is inside it from getting out. Amy, Kat, and Morgan dive into the film and all three find they enjoyed it more than they expected. They discuss the pitfalls and challenges of a film that doesn't quite identify its genre, and chat about how it could have been modified to make it a little more clear for the audience. They also chat about the excellent cinematography, the acting, and the jump scares that make the film worth it.

The Legendary Ladies are back after their winter hiatus with a new book club interview! This week, Amy, Kat, and Morgan interview author Fiona Fenn about her new, LGBTQ+ steampunk meets fantasy adult romance book! Set in a world where the villain is the main character, The Crack at the Heart of Everything follows Orpheus who, after helping conquer the world with his childhood best friend, realizes that the world he's been responsible for making isn't all it's cracked up to be. He's also been banished. And cursed. So there's that. Oh, and did we mention, he does get some help surviving this dastardly world of his own making from an annoyingly charming and irksomely handsome fellow who Orpheus may or may not be developing feelings for? Needless to say, things are getting complicated. 

The author, Fiona Fenn, chats with our Legendary Hosts about everything from the publishing process, world building, LGBTQ+ representation in the world of adult fantasy, and where or not the publishing world is changing as self-publishing seems to have hit its stride in the last few years.

It’s been three weeks…and we still CAN’T STOP SINGING WICKED. So, for the grand finale of their 2024 season, the Legendary Ladies get together to chat about the insanely popular Wicked movie. In this mega episode, Amy, Kat, and Morgan share their individual experiences with Wicked before the film, chat about how the film takes the stage musical above and beyond, discuss the differences between the relationship of Galinda and Elphaba on stage vs on screen, and share their thoughts on casting and the marketing blitz around the film. Morgan and Kat also get surprised with Amy asks for them to make a last minute top 5 from the film….and then Amy surprises them again by NOT picking one you’re sure she would have.

The Legendary Ladies are back! After a bit of a break, Amy, Kat, and Morgan have returned to chat about the indie film that seems to be taking streaming by storm - My Old Ass, starring Maisy Stella and Aubrey Plaza (sort of). A film that centers around a number of coming of age stories, including leaving family to start out on your own and exploring your sexuality, the film hit a little differently for each of the hosts. The Ladies discuss who the film was made for, how it compares to the similar themes of "Am I Okay" (which they reviewed earlier this year), and the angles of bisexual representation shared in the film.

It's the return of the Russos! On this week's The Legendary Ladies Podcast, Kat and Amy took a trip down family-friendly memory lane and watched the first episode of the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot, available on Disney+. Even though Amy hadn't seen the original series, the hosts found Wizards Beyond Waverly Place to be charming and entertaining, even if it may not have as much Selena Gomez as we end up wanting. They chat about the acting of the young stars, how the "Quiet on Set" documentary affected their viewing, and whether or not this reboot holds up against other similar Disney remakes, like "Raven's Home".

It's our second spooky season selection - Sweetpea on Starz! (Sorry, just had to get our alliterations in.) Our newest spooky season pick is a PilotPod covering the new Starz series Sweetpea, staring Ella Purnell. Amy and Kat are...lukewarm about this series, which is surprising, since on its head, the premise is excellent. The hosts chat about the fact that the hook that brought us in during the first 10 minutes failed to maintain the hype, whether or not the lack of good supporting characters undermined the 'ghost' theme they were going for (we get it, there was a purpose..it just didn't sell), and why the ___ had to die. All in all, we think the actress did a fantastic job with what was written, we just think we need to give it another episode to see where things go. The problem is...was this episode enough to get us to episode 2? Listen and find out!
