CBD Fountain was born when founder, Suzy Hardy created the body lotion for her own back pain. After trying another CBD topical that was expensive, smelled bad and didn’t work very well, Suzy got some Hemp CBD oil and created a body lotion that she would want to buy as a customer. It relieved her pain! She gave it to friends and family with different issues, from carpal tunnel to torn meniscus to bulging discs and they felt relief too! A business was born and each product has a story behind it.

“There were never so many able, active minds at work on the problems of disease as now, and all their discoveries are tending toward the simple truth that you can’t improve on nature.” –Thomas Edison

Next up, Laura Powers joins Suzy and Alli to discuss their top 2019 health hacks! Here are the highlights:

Do a Parasite Cleanse! Bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites — there are many types of harmful organisms and nearly everyone is affected at some point in their life. Harmful organisms are ones that live off another by living on or in them. Essentially, the harmful organism takes up residence in the host. In this relationship, harmful organisms steal nutrients and release waste to negatively affect the overall health of the host wreaking havoc on our microbiome. Get your gut in check by doing a parasite cleanse!

Laura recommends: Microbe Formulas
Alli recommends: Paratrex
(Use the coupon code foodheals to get 20% off Paratrex)

Cleanse with Clay! Diatomaceous earth is a naturally-formed sedimentary mineral rock. It's derived from the remains of diatoms, or oceanic unicellular algae. [1] Diatoms are over 30 million years old and are formed from the cementation of microscopic algae-like plant remains into the earth's surface. These clay-like, chalky remains are usually found in the form of a thick, white, siliceous powder known as diatomaceous earth. [2] Often used to support body cleansing, some research also suggests it's a natural tool for promoting normal blood lipids, detoxing toxic metals, and fighting harmful intestinal organisms.

Alli recommends Earthborn Elements supplements for internal cleansing and Pure Organic Ingredients Diatomaceous earth for cleansing your home.

Sweat it Out! Infrared saunas use infrared lamps (that use electromagnetic radiation) to warm your body directly. “These saunas use infrared panels instead of conventional heat to easily penetrate human tissue, heating up your body before heating up the air,” explains physical therapist, Vivian Eisenstadt, MAPT, CPT, MASP. Infrared is so safe it is regularly used in hospitals to keep newborn babies warm. Infrared and infrared saunas have been researched and studied for decades. Doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists use infrared every day in clinics and hospitals around the world to ameliorate pain, heal skin conditions, increase flexibility and generally help heal the body.

Alli recommends this Serene Life Portable Spa

Laura recommends the Uttiny Far Infrared Sauna Blanket

Release with Trigger Point Therapy! We all have stress. And when we put stress on a muscle, it can cause that muscle to tighten. And even after the stress is gone, that muscle tightness can remain. Many health issues and pain stem from this muscular stress, and that’s where trigger point therapy comes in! Depending on where your pain is, determines which trigger point needs to be addressed. You can use the Trigger Point Therapy Workbook to walk you through the process of how to massage the correct trigger points to find relief.

Laura recommends the Trigger Point Therapy Workbook

Heal with Cryotherapy! Cryotherapy sounds scary, but it’s not! The idea is to expose your body to below freezing temperatures for just a couple of minutes which causes your body to enter a state of healing itself. It can be targeted to specific parts of the body. Many places offer cryo facials and Alli has had it on her feet after wearing heels for a long period of time. It may help with pain, muscle healing, weight loss, eczema, inflammation and more!

Detox with an Ionic Foot Spa This can be done at various spas and you can also get a machine for your own home! The machine works by ionizing the foot bath water to give the hydrogen a positive charge which is said to pull toxins out through your feet. Suzy has been doing it for years and loves it!

Alli recommends the BHC’s Detox Foot Bath Machine

EnergyBits Alli’s favorite! EnergyBits offer plant-based nutrition for wellness and longevity. They’re made from high-quality chlorella and spirulina which are two types of algae. Alli loves them post-workout and especially for hangovers. They’re 100% organic, keto, vegan, and zero sugar. They’re also easy to take, just chew, swallow, or blend them!

(Use the coupon code foodheals to get 20% off EnergyBits)

Today we’re coming to you from Pura Vita restaurant! We’re chatting about good food, the delicious world of eating gluten free, and going vegan with JJ Flizanes and chef Tara Punzone.

Tara has strong Italian roots. Her parents had a sandwich shop in Brooklyn, and both of them were amazing cooks. She’s always been into the food aspect of her culture, and as she grew up, she began to develop a stronger passion for it.

She started cooking at age 10 and found she was really interested in it. Around that time, Tara decided she didn’t want to eat meat any more and become a vegetarian. Even though she wanted to give up meat, she didn’t want to give up the foods her parents would cook. Thankfully her parents were very accommodating and jumped in the kitchen to make foods that worked for her!

After a few years of being vegetarian, she went fully vegan and eventually became the owner of Pura Vita, a vegan Italian restaurant in Los Angeles that offers tons of gluten-free options - Allison and JJ think it’s one of the best restaurants in LA! Pura Vita is a product of her passions combined with her love of Italian food and it really shows in the dishes she creates.

As an entrepreneur and chef, Tara has had to overcome various challenges throughout her journey. Her advice? Don’t listen to anyone. Be polite and then forget everything they said. Take risks and believe in yourself. If you fail, dust yourself off and do it again. Life is relentless, you just have to keep going!

Tara worked hard to get where she is now… and she also manifested the shit out of Pura Vita. Tune in to this special episode to learn more about Tara and how she is making an impact on the world.

Thrilled to announce the brand new Food Heals VIP Club where we go behind the scenes of the businesses of our favorite Food Heals entrepreneurs. They are authors, podcasters, bloggers, speakers, coaches, filmmakers and more. In the VIP club you’ll hear how these wellness influencers use their transformational stories, their miraculous healing journeys, their voices to create the life they desire. You will learn exact systems, strategies and real-world advice on how YOU can build a career out of the knowledge, expertise, experiences and passions you have had in your life.

So let me give you a little back story about how the Food Heals VIP club was born and what it is. Besides being wildly passionate about holistic health and healing and the notion that food heals, I have another passion: empowering wellness entrepreneurs to build empires.

I love entrepreneurship and teaching people to build businesses out of their passions; businesses that serve the world and serve our souls! I have never believed in the notion of slaving away at a 9 to 5 that we hate working at in order to build someone else’s dreams. I believe in creating our own reality, our own dream jobs, so that we can live each day excited to wake up and not living in dread or in fear. I know not everyone is born like this or believes this but it was ingrained into my DNA from when I was a kid.

Growing up my father was an entrepreneur. I watched him build multiple businesses. I watched him have massive wins as well as massive failures but one thing he said always sticks with me. He said “Build a business you love and then hire people smarter than you to run it so you can take the profits off the top and enjoy your life.”

This is what he did. When I was young he owned a construction company and he built houses around our small town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. When I was 4 years old he bought a plot of land and built my mom and I a beautiful 5 bedroom house on Lake Ellen drive which was situated between and lake and a creek with a waterfall connecting them (I know I cant make this up!)

I have fond memories of going to construction sites with him and how cool it was to see a piece of land go from patchy grass and mud to a beautiful house that a family would move into and call a home. And, not only did my dad build homes but he even fought to have low income housing built in wealthier areas of our town so that children in low income households would be in neighborhoods with good school districts where they could get top notch education. So, there was altruism in his business as well that I always have admired.

In the late 80s my father hit a roadblock. The savings and loans crisis which devastated families in the 80s hit him hard. The savings and loan system was originally created to promote homeownership for the working class and was a huge opportunity for people like my father.

The S&Ls paid lower-than-average interest rates on deposits. In return, they offered lower-than-average mortgage rates. S&Ls couldn't lend money for commercial real estate, business expansion, or education. However, just like we saw in the subprime mortgage crisis we saw in 2007-2010, the Savings and Loans house of cards eventually came crashing down and by 1989, thousands and thousands  of the nation's savings and loans had failed. And thus my father was forced to declare bankruptcy.

You would think this is the type of situation that would tear a family apart, force them into poverty, or force business owners to give up. Not my dad. He started over. With help from my mom who worked at UNC as a curriculum creator not only did they come back from this crisis but my dad also paid back all of the debts that he owed when he declared bankruptcy.

Then he did something super unexpected. My dad decided to go to law school while I was in high school. Yes this man was a total risk taker - now you know where I get it from- right? Cut to a few years later, my dad had become an attorney in town and I went to college two hours away. My parents decided to move into their beach house which was about 30 minutes from my college town.

What happened in the small beachside community of Surf City, NC on Topsail Island was that my dad became to go-to lawyer in town for property law and real estate closings. He built a huge business by becoming the attorney who people got to know, like, and trust. His clients became friends who we would barbecue with, who we could have dinners and drinks with at the one bar in town. He used his previous construction skills and knowledge of the housing industry to start buying real estate and flipping homes and by the time I was a sophomore in college my dad became a millionaire.

And there he was living the lifestyle he had told me about- doing what he loved every day. Riding his motorcycle around town, taking my mom, our dog, and I out on the boat every weekend, cooking dinners for friends, families and neighbors and creating the life he envisioned for himself.

So this is what shaped me into believing that anything was possible. This is why I have always been an entrepreneur, this is why I always take risks in my life.

Now, as many of you know if you are a regular listener of my show, this bliss didn’t last. A few short years into this bliss I lost first my mother and then my father to battles with cancer.

I didn’t inherit millions because of mismanagement of his estate by a very awful person who sought out to ruin us financially (and did- but that is a story for another time.) But, this tragedy and my upbringing combined to inspire me to create the life I wanted to live and make an income that allowed me to live that life but also always have time to spend with friends, and family and do things that I want to do like films, podcasts, write books, coach people and more. Things that light me up inside!

And one of the coolest things that happened to me was when I started Food Heals so many of my guests who had incredible healing stories to share ALSO had built incredible brands and businesses helping others learn about health and healing. They were authors, podcasters, bloggers, coaches, filmmakers, and more. And they were using their transformational stories, their miraculous healing journeys, their voices to create the life they desired. And I wanted to go behind the scenes and learn what they were doing to create careers around their passions.

And that is what the FOOD HEALS VIP CLUB is. It is where you will hear the stories BEHIND THE SCENES of Food Heals Podcast Guests. Where you will learn exact systems, strategies and real-world advice on how YOU can build a career out of the knowledge, expertise, experiences and passions you have had in your life.

People need your voice. They need your perspective. They need your stories. Your unique perspective is unlike anyone else’s. Because it has been formed by your life experiences and everything you have been through up to this point in your life. And if you have been through something you can help others going through that same thing. If you have mastered something, you can help others who want to master that same thing. Wherever you are on your life’s journey, there is someone who needs your help even if you are just one step ahead of them.

I don’t care who else is doing it. It doesn’t matter if it has been done before. There are more people who need help, who need healing, who need your knowledge than there are people teaching it. And nothing that you are going to do has ever been done before. Because no matter what it is, you’ll do it your way.

By helping others, by serving them, we can create careers that we absolutely love. For me when I started my production company 13 years ago now, I accepted a few clients with video production needs that didn’t matter to me, that I wasn’t passionate about. And it showed.

I decided after two of those experiences to stop accepting clients who wanted to do things that didn’t serve the world or help others in some way. I wanted to do media that mattered which ended up becoming my tag line. If you see my branding, or my budgets, proposals or invoices, they all say Melody Productions - Media that Matters.

And with that in mind the right client started to be attracted to me. For years now I have exclusively worked with clients in social justice, public health and wellness to create videos to inspire people to get educated, to get into action and to make changes in their own lives and help others. All this while getting paid to do exactly what I wanted to do. Creating a career out of my passion to serve.

Then the same thing happened with Food Heals… when I started Food Heals I didn’t think, “I want to make a million dollars!” I thought "I want everyone to know that the body is designed to heal itself if given the tools it needs to do so!”

I wanted to inspire people to stop outsourcing their health to doctors and pills but instead to take their health into their own hands through nutrition and alternative medicine. And what happened was I ended up building a brand out of helping people that became popular and lucrative so that I can continue to use my voice, provide a platform for healing stories, podcast, make films, write books, host masterminds, speak on stages and shout from the rooftops that food heals.

And so that’s what I strive to do every single day. Reach more people with my message. And that is what the VIP Club guests are doing as well. And we want to help inspire you that you can do it too.

So in today’s episode I’m going to play you some of my favorite clips from the brand new Food Heals VIP Club and if you are ready to join just go to www.glow.fm/foodheals and you can sign up today. What do cancer, autoimmune diseases, allergies, mental health and fertility all have in common? The gut. Your microbiome does everything from digesting food to absorbing minerals to regulating your immune system and your hormones. All disease begins in the gut… and that’s where healing begins as well. So in this week’s episode we couldn’t wait to interview an international expert on the topic of gut health, Katherine Maslen.

Katherine got into nutrition after witnessing a close friend’s journey through lupus, an autoimmune disease. As she got sicker, her medicine cabinet grew, yet none of these medications had any positive effect on her health. She passed away at just 52. Katherine knew there had to be a better way. This is what led her to create the Shift Clinic, an international wellness company that is changing the face of health and empowering people to take control of their healing journey.

Katherine’s tips for rebalancing your microbiome, improving your fertility, detoxing, and boosting your wellbeing:

  • Avoid plastics - these are endocrine disrupters, which means they mess up your hormones.
  • Avoid pesticides - go organic instead (check out the Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen and clean Fifteen lists).
  • Avoid gluten and dairy.
  • Drink purified, filtered water - around 8 cups a day.
  • Fill up on fiber (gluten free whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables) - it binds to toxins and takes them out of the body.
  • Balance is everything - if you fancy a glass of wine, go for it (just make sure it’s organic and vegan).
  • Focus on the emotional connection.
  • Check out Katherine’s book Get Well Stay Well to discover the secrets to get back in touch with your body and start thriving.
  • Listen to the Shift Podcast.

Hypnobirthing? What’s that? Basically, it is a natural birthing technique without any medication, that uses self-hypnosis techniques to combat fear and pain during labor. The result: you’re not screaming in agony (like the typical birthing scene in films!), you’re not linked up to all those bleeping machines in a brightly lit room with doctors and nurses running around you, and you’re not pumped full of painkiller meds. Instead, birthing becomes a connective, intensely powerful female experience.

That’s why more and more women are opting out of the traditional hospital birth, and going for natural hypnobirthing instead. Like today’s co-host Laura Petersen (which you know from some of our previous episodes). Laura is a best-selling author and self-publishing coach, and she’s expecting her first child. She’s opted for a natural hospital birth using the Mongan Method.

Melissa Tucker, podcast host and marketing expert, has one of the most intriguing birth stories we’ve ever heard. After having two children the traditional, hospitalized, way, she was inspired to go natural. For her third child, she chose home hypnobirthing. Without epidurals, without drugs, and without doctors, she used self-hypnosis to keep herself calm, focused and centered. The experience was so magical, she wanted to do it all over again.

Katherine Maslen is a clinical naturopath, nutritionist, author, and host of the Shift podcast. And she too has an amazing natural birth story. But you’ll have to listen to the episode for the details!

Here are the best resources if you want to research alternatives to hospital childbirth:

There exists a single cell organism that contains over 40 different vitamins and minerals, but has only 1 calorie.

So what is the magical ingredient? Algae. For Catharine Arnston, this food is the gift that keeps on giving.

Catharine discovered algae it by accident. Ten years ago, her sister got breast cancer. She was lucky enough to have an oncologist who understood the diet connection and told her she needed to go on an alkaline diet. Catharine realized she needed to know more about nutrition, so she studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. And she learnt two things: people know they need to eat healthier. And most people don’t have the time to do that. Catharine knew she needed to create something green, healthy, and easy to take to help people improve their health effortlessly. So she turned to the one game-changing ingredient in her sister’s cancer healing diet: algae.

Did you know algae is endorsed by NASA and the United Nations as the most nutrient-dense food there is? It’s so nutritious, that the US Government has now set up a bill that encourages farmers to cultivate it.

So, what makes algae so healing?

Algae can be split into two sub categories. One is seaweed, which is grown in the ocean (like dulse, kelp and nori). It’s packed with fiber and iodine and very nutritious. But not as nutritious as the second category: micro algae. The two most powerful micro algae are spirulina and chlorella. Together, they are a powerhouse for your health. Spirulina is energizing and hunger-satiating, while chlorella is healing.

Spirulina was the first life on earth, over 4 billion years ago. It’s outlived the ice ages and the dinosaurs… So it’s got to be pretty special! Spirulina is technically a bacteria, which is great for your gut. It’s also the highest protein food (containing 64% protein, in amino-acid form), and because your body doesn’t need to break it down, it gives you instant physical and mental energy. That’s why Catharine calls her spirulina tablets Energy Bits. It also satisfies your hunger, which is great if you’re intermittent fasting. As if that wasn’t enough, studies have found that spirulina helps your hair grow faster, clears up your skin, and helps you lose weight.

Chlorella developed on earth around a billion years after spirulina. It’s a healing food, it helps your body to recover. Hence the name: Recovery Bits. It has the highest concentration of chlorophyll in the world (yes, even more than wheatgrass). Chlorophyll helps your cells to detox by maintaining the health of the cell wall. This allows nutrients to flow in, and toxins to flow out. Chlorella will also attach to toxins in your body (heavy metals, radiation, lactic acids, alcohol, environmental chemicals, etc.) and help eliminate them. It’s an intelligent food - it knows what to take out and what to leave in.

Which spirulina and chlorella, you’re looking at two perfect foods for health and healing. Catharine has blended the two together into Vitality Bits, which gives you the best of both algae in an easy-to-take tiny tablet.

Of course, when you take supplements, you want to make sure they’re absolutely pure. Catharine spent a long time researching the best place to source and grow algae to ensure her products are the purest quality. She gets her algae from Taiwan, which has the highest standards. The algae is grown in triple filtered water and air-dried to preserve all the nutrients.

What does it mean to cleanse? For many, the word throws up images of green juices and fasting. But that’s not quite accurate. You might be surprised to learn that you can cleanse in a gentler way. But you also need to go beyond diet if you want to really reset your body.

Elissa Goodman looks 20 years younger than her age (59), you might think she’s been blessed with great genes. But she was not the healthiest child. She had a low immune system and was always sick. She got every type of virus, digestive issues, tonsillitis, chickenpox, chronic fatigue - you name it, she had it. To make matters worse, she felt unworthy compared to her high-achieving Type A personality parents.

Fast-forward to adulthood, Elissa went to college, got into advertising, and climbed that corporate ladder because she was determined to make her parents proud. But she wasn’t following her passion or purpose. She just worked. And got sicker. And one day she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

She knew that this was because she’d been sick most of her life and that her lymphatic system was full of toxins that she’d been unable to clear. But she hadn’t thought of the emotional aspect. The doctors she saw first just talked of chemo and freezing her eggs. But one of them was different. He sat her down and asked: Are you happy? Are you doing what you love? It was a turning point.

Elissa realized how miserable she’d been in her job and how much she disliked herself. She knew something had to change. She went 100% vegan, she started doing yoga, she went into talk therapy, and do emotional release work. She got rid of her cancer, but the radiation caused hypothyroidism. Then she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and celiac (two autoimmune conditions). And then her husband died of cancer. It was like a cascade of traumatic life events. That’s when she decided to go back to school and learn about nutrition so she could help her daughters stay healthy.

And that was it - she never looked back. She became a cleanse expert to help as many people as possible get healthy the easy way. Like her 1-week soup cleanse, which contains 45 different vegetables, is totally vegan and free from anything processed or GMO. She helps her clients to reset their body and brain so they can rejuvenate, re-energize, heal, and maintain a new, healthy lifestyle long-term.

Here are some of Elissa’s tips to reset your body:

  • Juicing - a fantastic way to get all those vitamins straight into your cells
  • Smoothies - packed with healthy fiber which helps cleanse your digestive system
  • Vegetables, vegetables, vegetables - the more the better (especially dandelion greens, cruciferous veg, and celery)
  • Take a good quality superfood powder (Elissa loves Pure Synergy Juice Powder)

Cleansing is so important because it also allows you to step away from addictive foods so that you can crave healthy, whole, plant foods. However, cleansing is emotional as well as nutritional.

Have you dealt with your trauma? Because no matter how clean your diet, you can still get sick if you have emotional issues you haven’t dealt with. Here are Elissa’s tips to start letting go of those trauma toxins:

  • Find a good energy healer - you hold a lot of negative energy (toxins) in your cells (Get in touch with Elissa if you’d like to know who she has worked with).
  • Identify what trauma you experienced in your first 7 years.
  • Ask yourself whether you’re truly happy with your career / partner / friends / family.
  • Check out books like Mind over Medicine and Radical Remission to learn how to release trauma.
  • Try a meditation app like Unplug.
  • Journal about what you want to let go - first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
  • Cultivate self-love - that is one thing that’s missing from most of our lives.
  • Send love to your inner child.
  • Go to Elissa’s website to join her cleanse programs!
  • Read Elissa’s books Cancer Hacks and Auto-immune Hacks (how Elissa overcame cancer, Hashimoto’s and celiac disease).
  • Sign up to Elissa’s 7-day reset program.

We’re back for another installment of wisdom from the inspiring Josh Trent. Check out Episode 272 for Josh’s healing journey, learn about his incredible experiences with plant medicine, and discover the powerful potential of breathwork.

Today we are constantly on the go. We’re being bathed in WiFi all the time. We’re constantly connected to our phone and it keeps pulling us back into it - notifications, emails, calls. We’re all trying to multitask and achieving less than ever. We’re all trying to set goals but failing because we’re not doing the inner work, or connection to the emotions we want to feel. For that same reason, we’re unable to find a loving partner. If we could only connect with the understanding and deep knowledge that we are more powerful, more amazing, than we know… but sometimes we need a little help.

Nootropics:

What are nootropics? They’re supplements that increase cognitive performance and verbal acuity. Basically, they help your neurons to function at their highest capacity. Think about it, your brain is always working, even when you don’t realize it. You’re taking in your surroundings, you’re noticing the person you’re talking to, you’re breathing, you’re digesting, you’re walking…. Not to mention dealing with the millions of emails, texts and social media messages! No wonder your brain is exhausted! Nootropics help it to work better, to think clearer, and in the long-term protect it from damage. Josh swears by supplements from Neurohacker Collective.

Manifesting the one:

Who do you want in your life? A “whatever you want, baby” kind of partner, or someone who challenges you? And how do you find love in this world of Tinder and nobody having any time? After three years of being single, Josh manifested his new relationship. He was on Paul Chek’s podcast, and Paul gave him a divine union prayer to practice. “Bless me that I choose my life’s companion according to the laws of perfect soul union.” Nine days later, in the desert, Josh met Kerry Michelle on Cathedral Rock. He knew right away that they had a deep soul connection. It’s not just the prayer, of course. It’s knowing that you are in the right space for a relationship - knowing yourself and understanding that everything that has happened in your life has happened for your growth. It’s a journey towards self-love - because when you can connect with self-love, then you can call in your soulmate. The more you are in the energy of love, the more love you will attract into your life.

Forgiveness:

You know when you’re holding on to the pain that someone else caused you, and you’re stuck in victim mode, and you just can’t forgive them? We’ve all been there. But who are you hurting, ultimately? Only yourself. That feeling of anger towards another is a toxic emotion, and it can take over your life because of the negative beliefs that you unconsciously hold on to. Not only that, but you’re probably also beating yourself up about the fact you’re not being a forgiving person. Right? Double whammy. It was at a Rythmia plant medicine ceremony that Josh realized he’d spent twenty years holding on to anger at his father and believing he couldn’t trust men. By forgiving him, and then forgiving himself for having held on to that anger in the first place, Josh was able to release the emotion that was holding him back. You can too.

What’s 5G doing to us?

Believe it or not, within the Terms & Conditions of your phone, there’s a statement that says you should never have your phone physically touching you. When the phone touches your body, it transfers the 5G into your DNA. So it’s important to keep your phone in your bag, not in your pocket. The less you have your phone touch your skin, the less the 5G will affect your body. Turn off your WiFi at night (you can buy a timer from Amazon). Put your phone on airplane mode if you’re carrying your phone in your pocket. If you want to learn more, then check out Josh’s interview with Thaddeus Owen, founder of Primal Hacker, to find out how to protect yourself.

Everything you do and every thought you have is either coming from a place of love or fear. If you look at our world right now, it seems obvious that we are living too much in fear. And we need to move to love if we want to heal - not just ourselves, but the whole world.

It took Josh Trent a long time to get to that place.

He had a rough childhood. He was a premature baby and spent the first two weeks of his life in an incubator. His dad left when he was 2 months old. His mum was bipolar. He never felt safe or peaceful at home. Without any parental presence, Josh didn’t learn how to deal with his emotions. So he found a drug. And that drug was food. It became a way to numb the feelings he didn’t know what to do with.

At 21 years old Josh weighed 280 pounds; he was in a loveless relationship and working a job he hated. It was the perfect moment for an awakening - there just HAD to be more to life than this. His journey began with losing weight. He spent 18 months frantically trying all the diets. But he was trying too hard to get out of feeling bad… instead of taking action from a place of trust and self-love. It wasn’t working. So at just 24, he sold everything and moved to Hawaii to study nutrition, to work out, and to spend time with himself - to just be. He became a personal trainer to help people lose weight and transform their lives. The thing is… he knew fitness wasn’t “it.”

So he went back to a corporate job selling technology software. It was spiritual suicide. And then he got fired. Suddenly, he felt liberated. He had something to share. After all, our biggest struggles are the biggest gift we can give the world. He decided to launch Wellness Force and started his podcast, Wellness Force Radio, which is now a top-ranked wellness show.

But it was plant-medicine which really took Josh to a place of healing, and a place from which he could follow his passion. The first time he drank ayahuasca, he felt an intense, all-consuming, nurturing, loving feminine energy. The energy of the Mother Gaia, Mother Earth.

Ayahuasca is an ancient medicine - it was used over 5000 years ago. When you drink it, you go into an altered state. And from that place, you can let go of addiction. Any addiction - food, drugs, work, shopping - covers our wounds but doesn’t heal them. To heal it, we need to face the pain. Plant medicine takes you to the source of pain, and lets it out. Yes, it’s a drug. But so is coffee. So are opioid painkillers. Ayahuasca is not addictive. And it is even being scientifically studied because of its power to reconnect both brain hemispheres and trigger long-lasting emotional healing.

Why do we need this? Because we’re killing the world right now. And the way we’re treating our earth and our environment, it all comes back to us. When we eat animals that have been tortured, we’re absorbing the fear that animal felt, the pharmaceuticals it was fed. Mother Earth is giving these plants to us to teach us how to heal ourselves and our world.

To begin healing, you don’t have to dive straight into plant medicine. Breathwork is another ancient tool to get to an altered state. It gets you out of your head and into your body, where trauma can come out. The following two practices are easy to do quickly on your own.

Phase 1

Sit with your knees below your hips (on a meditation cushion).

Align your head, shoulders and hips.

Take a deep clearing breath, filling in your belly first and then your chest.

Take 21 forceful breaths.

Do a few rounds of box breath - 5 second inhale, hold for 5 and feel your belly expand, breathe out for 5 seconds, then breathe out all your air out and feel your stomach contract.

Phase 2

This is also known as performance breathing. Breathing in quickly through your nose turns on your stress response and makes you more aware of your surroundings.

Breathe in quickly for 2 seconds.

Then hold for 7 seconds - this activates your vagus nerve and gets you into rest mode.

Then breath out for 8 seconds. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system into healing.

Want to get started doing breathwork? Then go to www.wellnessforce.com/M21 to download Josh’s guide and take part in the 7-day breathwork challenge. Plus you’ll discover other practices that will help you transform your morning, let go of old weight, and heal your life.

DAISY JING - From Acne to Beauty

We all want to be beautiful. We all want to be perfect. Why? Because we’ve been sold the idea that we need to be perfect to be acceptable. This is especially true when it comes to our skin. It has to be pore-less, flawless, smooth, wrinkle-free - that’s a lot to worry about. We’re all trying to fit into some standardized idea of beauty… a standard created by marketing experts to sell us products and services!

Daisy’s quest for perfection started in the 3rd grade. As her acne developed, she was determined to get rid of it and make her skin perfect. She visited dozens of dermatologists, tried hundreds of “miracle” products, antibiotics, benzo-peroxide skincare… nothing worked. In fact, many of these products made the acne worse. Check out Episode 220 for her healing story.

This struggle with perfection is what motivated Daisy to start her own all-natural skincare brand, Banish, that removes acne scars and is gentle on skin. But more importantly, Daisy went on a journey to let go of the need to be perfect.

After all, what is perfectionism? Isn’t it just a symptom of feeling that you’re not good enough? It’s a control issue. Trying to control how you appear to others, hiding your “flaws” so that you become acceptable. This is crazy. Each of us is uniquely beautiful, we all have a light to share.

So how do you let go of the need to be perfect? For Daisy, it was focusing on something bigger than herself. As she focused on her YouTube channel, offering advice, sharing her struggles and responding to viewers, her focus shifted from appearance-obsession to helping others. This changed everything.

If you want to be comfortable in your skin, you’ve got to get outside your head. After all, what do you notice about other people? Do you notice their wrinkles and pimples, or do you notice their friendly smile, cool outfit, positive attitude?

Beyond Your Skin

You’re not defined by your looks. You’re defined by the difference you make in other people’s lives. So, what can you do? Give back. Volunteer at a homeless shelter, organize a campaign, do a clean-up, get involved helping your community, help those in your immediate circle who are struggling, make their life a bit better. Your journey is your gift to the world, any struggles you’ve gone through are ways you can help others.

Acne goes deeper than your skin

Your skin is your biggest organ, and it tells you whether something is off. Acne is a sign of a deeper issue - unbalanced hormones, inflammation, poor gut health. Skincare is only 20% of the solution. You need to start from the inside. Going vegan, quitting junk foods, giving up dairy can all help. Once you’ve got your diet sorted out, then you can look at skincare.

ELLA MAGERS - From poor body image and disordered eating to self-acceptance

At just 7 years old, Ella Magers already knew her mission was to save the animals and help our planet. By the time she was a teenager, she was sitting on the side of the road trying to raise awareness of the plight of factory farmed animals.

Her struggle with perfectionism really began in her early twenties. She was working in the fitness industry, and she decided that the way to promote the vegan lifestyle was to be so perfect, so lean, so muscular, that people would want to find out how she got there.

Unfortunately, this made life impossible. When Ella looked in the mirror, all she saw was her flaws. Her quest for a perfect body led her down a dark path of unhealthy behaviors like extreme calorie counting and binging. On the outside, she was a picture of vegan health, but behind closed doors, Ella saw herself as fat and restricted her food. Because all her focus was on something else - helping animals - Ella disconnected with herself.

Isn’t that what so many of us do these days? We’re taking care of everyone else, too busy with our children, our families, our work… and we neglect to work on ourselves, to cultivate that self-acceptance that helps us to live a joyful, purposeful life, that helps us be the best version of ourselves, and, ultimately, helps us make a bigger positive impact on the world.

In the digital age we live in now, we’re constantly comparing ourselves to other people - or profiles. How can we get over that? How can we know that we are fine just as we are? Well a good place to start is to say: I am perfectly imperfect. Because that’s what we all are.

We need to reprogram ourselves to get us out of that mental space of “I’m not good enough”. The first step is to acknowledge it.

  • Get into observation mode - pause and figure out the thoughts that are making you feel like crap.
  • Use affirmations to change those thoughts from negative to positive.
  • Reconnect with gratitude for your body.
  • Be patient - it will take time.
  • Share - you don’t have to do it alone. Connect with like-minded women to find that support.
  • Start with the emotional aspect first, be gentle with yourself.
  • Approach yourself with curiosity and compassion (instead of judgement).
  • Check out Ella’s Self-Empowerment Coaching System - a structured program for really looking at where you are right now, taking your power back, and falling in love with you.

Just focusing on the food or the workouts will only work for a short time. Unless you tackle the root cause of why you’re where you are right now, change will not last. And the root is how you view yourself. Whether you love yourself or not. Self-love is the pre-requisite for making sustainable changes in your life.

Through nutrition, veganism, muay thai boxing and self-love practices, Ella came out of the darkness of disordered eating, and now leads a body-positive life. She runs the Plant Empowered Coaching program where she helps her tribe adopt a vegan lifestyle and love the skin they’re in - without counting calories or feeling restricted. Got to www.SexyFitVegan.com for the details or to apply for a free break-through session.

When it comes to transforming your life, you’ve got to start from within. So, we’ve asked three successful entrepreneurs to share their top tips to banish limiting beliefs and step into your dream life.

Lisa Thomas - a transformational energy healer, Lisa empowers her clients to reach their full potential by removing inherited emotional blocks. One of the blocks so many of us carry concerns money. How many times have we heard “Money doesn’t grow on trees” or “You can’t be spiritual and prosperous” or “There is never enough”? Of course this impacts how we view money, and our own prosperity.

How can we transform our money mindset and manifest from a place of gratitude?

Inherited money beliefs are huge, and they’re based around scarcity - there not being enough to go around or that what you have will be taken from you. The antidote? Gratitude.

So, how do you tap into that?

  • Start small. “I am grateful that I’m alive.” Or you might be grateful that you have a bed, that the sun is out, that you have a roof over your head.
  • Before you know it, your vibration will start rising.
  • Make sure you speak it out loud. When you speak it, it sends it out into the universe. And when you give gratitude, it comes back.
  • Give gratitude for what you know is coming - your high-vibe clients, your perfect home, your ideal partner…
  • What if a negative belief creeps in? That’s fear. It’s time for stronger statements like “My life is getting better, whether I believe it or not
  • Check out Episode 215 for the full episode, where Lisa talks to Alli and vegan entrepreneur Whitney Lauritsen about releasing inherited emotional blocks and manifesting all you desire.
  • Lisa is here for you. Go to www.FoodHealsNation.com/Lisa to see her special offer for Food Heals listeners.

James Whittaker is the author of the best-selling personal finance and motivation books The Beginner’s Guide to Wealth, and Think and Grow Rich - The Legacy. He’s also co-produced the film Think and Grow Rich - The Legacy. His mission is to help people take ownership of their financial, physical and mental health. Check out Episode 205 for his inspirational money story.

How can we all think and grow rich? We need to address our entire life, because money, body, and mind are all linked.

  • If you want to have a good relationship at home, you need to be engaged with your finances.
  • Write out a goals list (financial goals, health goals, life goals etc.), and get your spouse do to the same - this way you can know what’s important to them now, and in the future, and work together to make it happen.
  • Get very clear on what you want. It’s much easier to take the first step if you know your destination. That will spur you on to greater success.
  • Keep it simple, and consistent.
  • Get out of victim mentality and banish limiting beliefs:
    • Look forward instead of focusing on the past.
    • Get crystal clear on where you want to be - mentally, physically and financially.
    • What is your environment like? Are you hanging out with too many negative people?
    • Get comfortable with being out of your comfort zone.
    • Try journaling - it helps you start the day with intention, purpose and passion.

Alida McDaniel helps people across the globe tap into pure consciousness and shift the world one thought at the time. If you want banish those negative beliefs, and create more time in our day for positive action, you need to break out of fear. How? By setting intentions.

  • Give yourself permission to be fearless.
  • Identify the limiting beliefs that are clouding your judgement and affecting your life from the root - it might be that you think you have no time or no skills, it might be that you’re afraid of losing people or money or your job.
  • Be committed to taking the actions necessary to make your dreams come true. Announce that commitment to the Universe.
  • Have 100% faith that you will make it.
  • Take ownership for your life so far, be honest with yourself about the actions you’re taking right now and how they have brought you where you are today.
  • Decide that you are not going to judge yourself, and choose a different course of action. Create a code of conduct for your new improved life.

Check out Episodes 43 and 65 to discover how Alida manifested the one and created a holistic life.

Sarah’s story starts with a text message. It was 2008. She was living a sheltered life - married to her childhood sweetheart, children, a family home. And one day she saw a text on her husband’s phone that revealed he had been having an affair. Her world blew up instantaneously. The life she knew ended in 5 minutes. One minute they were sitting down to dinner, the next minute she’d thrown him out. Three days later they filed for divorce. She hit rock bottom.

But often the toughest times are those we need the most, even though it might not feel like it in the moment. Her divorce was the catalyst for a new beginning. Sarah began to realize she had the freedom to invent who she wanted to be. She started making a future board - finding pictures that illustrated the life she wanted to experience, and daydreaming about it. And the magic happened. Because when you shift your focus from what you’ve gone through in the past, or are going through in the moment, to what you want to create, you make your dreams happen. Before she knew it, she’d manifested 95% of what she wanted.

Now, Sarah is a master coach who has worked with professional athletes and people across the world. She’s a workshop leader, keynote speaker and best-selling author. She’s living her best life, and helping people manifest their dreams.

Her latest book FutureBoards is a step by step guide to using vision boards to manifest your dream life, and is out TODAY! It’s available at Target, and if you take a photo of you with the book, post it and tag @SarahCentrella with the hashtag #futureboards, you could win free coaching, free courses, and autographed books.

How to use a vision board:

  • Define what you really want.
  • Find pictures that match what’s in your head.
  • Put yourself in your dreams in your mind.
  • Hang your vision board in your space so that you can spend time around it.
  • Get comfortable with your dreams, no matter how big they are.

Picture this. A gorgeous villa built into the cliffside, surrounded by an organic farm, with an infinity pool overlooking the sea; the picturesque Italian village of Ravello, the most vegan-friendly town in Italy, with its cobbled streets, authentic restaurants and independent shops. In this perfect setting, a group of women came together to connect, learn from each other, and savor a week of total plant-based relaxation.

Meet the ladies:

Leslie Durso - international vegan chef, working with the Four Seasons to veganize hotels all over the world. Her favorite part - going barefoot into the garden and picking food to make dinner. The super glamorous lifestyle. Swimming in private coves. Follow her on Instagram @lesliedurso.

Ella Magers - founder of Sexy Fit Vegan and creator of the 6-month plant empowered coaching program. Her favorite part of the trip? Being in a gorgeous setting where the food you eat has been picked from the garden that day. Learning about the olive oil. The locals being so friendly and inviting. Follow her @sexyfitvegan.

Coriann Bright - owner of Bright Living, she creates sacred spaces by combining energy healing and interior design. She loved eating divinely well while traveling, and finding so many new places that embrace vegan cuisine. But the highlight was taking the boat out to the seaside restaurant, swimming out to the caves as a group, and being in goddess energy. Oh, and words cannot express the joy of shopping in Ravello.

Ashley Fillingim - an attorney who represents wellness entrepreneurs. She loved our first Italian Getaway retreat so much she came back this year. She couldn’t pick a favorite thing. The place just calls to her. The peace and simplicity, alongside the explosion of light and color is what keeps bringing her back. Learning how to live simply and elegantly. Connecting with empowered, fun, intelligent women, sharing stories and being supportive. Follow her on Instagram @kickashlife

Jill Tomback - Alli’s longtime friend and a teacher. Check out episodes 26, 27 and 28 for her healing story! This retreat was the first time she landed in Europe and she was beyond blown away. The lemons, the food, the people, the artistry that goes into everything that’s made, the lack of mass production… but mostly, the healthy environment. Check her out on Instagram @jillctomback.

Susmitha Subbaraju - a vegan restauranteur (Carrots, the first vegan restaurant in India!), light worker, spiritual entrepreneur and jeweler from India. A year ago, she stumbled on the Spiritual Boss Babes episode, and it resonated so much she knew she had to meet Leslie and Alli. It was connections that brought her to the retreat. Women being there for each other and lifting each other up. Check her out on Instagram @veganosaurus and @carrotsrestaurant

Cynthia Bomaster - a physical therapist specializing in orthopedic rehabilitation. She’s loved getting to know everyone on this retreat. Each woman is so powerful and inspiring in their own right, has been so accepting, inclusive and open. It’s been wonderful to make new friends! Loved the community set up that encourages being physical active every day. Follow her on Instagram @simplylivefully.

Alli - the greatest thing about coming to Ravello again this year? Experiencing new places and foods. Like the vegan cheesecake (culinary art!). Loving the combination of being on vacation and eating the healthiest, tastiest foods. No, not just lettuce - eating the most divine, gorgeous dishes. And of course, the wine. You can indulge AND still be healthy.

Tips for vegan healthy eating while traveling:

  • Connect with restaurateurs
  • Don’t be shy, smile and ask - put a positive spin on it
  • Stay curious, you never know what you might learn
  • Do a little bit of research, and then go with the flow

It was Hippocrates that famously said “all disease starts in the gut” - he was wise beyond his time! In fact, many of the chronic diseases we face today are caused by an unbalanced microbiome.

For years, Tina Anderson worked as a general counsel for a family pharmaceutical business. But the more she stayed, the more she realized how abusive that industry is - the over-prescribing, for instance, or reps lobbying doctors to prescribe medication to more people, even those who don’t need it yet. Or friends who, after starting one pharmaceutical, suddenly had to take ten more to balance the side effects. You can’t fault the business model: one drug lowers blood pressure but causes joint pain, so you have to take another pill to reduce joint pain but that one damages your stomach, so you take a third pill to counter the stomach problems but that one causes poor circulation, and so on.

Tina had gone into the pharmaceutical business because she wanted to help people improve their health, so she was appalled by what was really going on. Even though there is a place for pharmaceuticals (like in emergency situations), they are not the answer when it comes to healing chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disorders. These are lifestyle illnesses, and therefore must be healed by a change in lifestyle, not a drug.

When Tina began researching natural health, particularly gut health, she was blown away. What she found led her to patent a powerful and unique probiotic strain, and launch the probiotic company Just Thrive. Now, she’s on a mission to help more people naturally heal their gut, and thrive.

What’s the deal with gut health?

The microbiome affects almost every aspect of your physical health. And it’s being impacted on a daily basis by our modern lifestyles: antibiotics, glyphosate, toxins, processed food, stress, all these things create an imbalance in the gut, also known as dysbiosis. This happens when bad bacteria takes over the good bacteria. The other big issue is leaky gut, which over 80% of adults suffer from without even realizing it.

What is leaky gut?

Leaky gut is a condition characterized by tiny holes in your intestinal wall which allow undigested particles (like LPS toxins) from your gut leak into your blood stream. Your immune system doesn’t recognize these particles, and attacks by launching an inflammatory response. This is at the root of all autoimmune disorders, but also other chronic conditions like Alzheimer’s and heart disease.

What causes leaky gut?

Glyphosate is one of the biggest problems. It’s a pesticide, but it’s actually registered as an antibiotic. Unlike medical antibiotics that target both the good and bad bacteria, glyphosate only targets the good bacteria. So why is it still allowed to be used? Because they say it doesn’t affect human cells. The problem with that statement is that we’re made up of 90% bacterial cells. Which means glyphosate does affect us. Eating organic is a must, and eating fermented foods helps… but it’s vital to repopulate the good bacteria in the gut - and you do that with a probiotic.

Which is the best strain of probiotic to take?

Most probiotics are very sensitive. Lactobacillus, for example, don’t survive the gastric system. But bacillus ARE able to survive the gastric system - which means they get to your gut because they’re not destroyed by your stomach. These strains reverse the damage done by glyphosate, and even reduce levels of ghrelin (the hunger hormone).

I haven’t used another probiotic since I’ve tried Just Thrive, it’s THAT good - I take it every day. Want to give it a try? Use the FOODHEALS10 for 10% off at www.thriveprobiotic.com.

On today’s bonus episode I am getting real with you, sharing my story - my physical, emotional, spiritual and financial journey that has led me to exactly where I am today.

And though it’s been tough, traumatic, and painful at times, I know now that it was all perfect. But, it took me some time to be able to see it that way. I have done deep healing, spiritual work on myself. And I’m not done.

I don’t think we are ever done healing, but I am at the point in my life finally where I am willing to share unapologetically exactly who I am, what I have been through and what I stand for. To stop playing small. To be bold and brave.

I now tell my story everywhere I can. From an Instagram post, to the podcast, to my film, to my book, to speaking on stages across the US and internationally I am speaking my truth.

The crazy thing about sharing my story is it has led to me living a beautiful, sexy, amazing life that I literally never thought I could have. Opening up about myself has unlocked magic and so by sharing my story with you today I hope it encourages you to share yours as well. You never know who out there needs to heal it.

So you may know I am finishing up my book, Food Heals. Today I wanted to start the podcast by reading you the introduction. This has not been edited yet. This is raw, this is me. It may change before it is published, who knows? But here is my story as of today.

How does food affect our lives? We know it affects the body… but your whole life? Yes! It’s the most available tool, the one that can spark the most change! Think about it. If you’re stuck in a body you hate, struggling with health issues, or just feeling sluggish and unhealthy, how can you shine your bright light out into the world? These five fellow Spirit Junkies and wellness-preneurs transformed their body, business, and life through food.

Meg Sylvester

Food had a massive impact on Meg’s life…. AND business. Her entire spiritual awakening was linked with food. For years, she had suffered from daily migraines, acne, depression, stomach issues, lethargy. She even thought she had a brain tumor. But she couldn’t get a diagnosis. But doctors would check her bloods and tell her she was fine.

It was reading Grain Brain and The Universe Has Your Back that flicked a switch on the food/mood/soul connection. She became obsessed with the idea of functional medicine, root cause medicine - of finding the root cause of what was triggering her issues. Suddenly she felt empowered to shift out of victim mentality into lighthouse mentality, and answer her soul’s calling. Changing what she ate meant she overcame all her issues and had the energy and mental clarity to follow her dreams. That’s what propelled her out of her corporate job and into her current work - coaching others find the root cause of their limiting beliefs, uproot them and, step into a vibrant life.

Meg is now a spiritual entrepreneur on a mission to inspire others to build the purpose driven business of their dreams. In just one year after completing Spirit Junkie Masterclass, Meg’s led four beautiful and powerful women’s retreats. The next one is a women’s self-awakening and connection retreat in Guatemala - where you can connect with the earth, the Mayan culture and try sacred plant medicine. It’s in October and there are a few spots left. Go to her website for more details.

Kelly Lynn Adams

As a type A personality, Kelly was always doing, always striving, always busy, and never taking time out for herself. Little wonder, she was burnt out and struggling with her weight and autoimmune issues. Kelly knew that if she felt better, she’d do better, and she was determined to do something better with her life. So, she stared watching what she was eating, drinking tons of water, moving her body. She lost 40 pounds and healed her chronic thyroid condition, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. How? By mimicking fasting with ProLon - getting her body to think it’s fasting, when you’re actually eating.

Of course, it was a mental journey as well as food. For Lynn, it was about focusing on the present moment, rather than future-tripping. Visualizations, affirmations, and believing before seeing. Detoxing from junk foods, but also junk thoughts, junk people, even junk content (like the news!!). Spirit Junkie Masterclass helped Lynn to trust and know that everything is working out for her highest good. Since then, her career has pivoted, because that trust allowed her to align her business with what matters to her.

Kelly is a certified business leadership and life coach, writer, motivational speaker. She has helped thousands of women build their businesses, shift their mindset and step into their divine power. Check her out at www.kellylynnadams.com

Michelle De Matheu

Michelle had a spiritual awakening when she recovered from anorexia. She was working as a fashion designer, living in New York, living the dream she’d had since she was 4. But she felt disconnected with her body. She didn’t know how to love herself. Her aha moment came when she realized her eating disorder was a teacher, that it was opening the door to freedom. She knew she had to peel back the layers, forgive and fall in love with herself.

Michelle used yoga and meditation to reconnect with her body. Reading about the benefits of food helped her reshape her beliefs around eating. By looking at the benefits of food, rather than counting calories, helped her realize that food could help her, and was not something to be afraid of. On this journey, she began to share her struggles, what she was learning and her passion for healing food.

For Michelle, the best thing about Spirit Junkie Masterclass is the community, the powerful spirit junkie tribe that keeps her motivated and keeps her energy up. The class also gave her the tools to apply spiritual principles to her business routine and gave her the kick to take action, come out of the spiritual business closet, and step into what she really felt called to do. Now, she’s a mind, body and soul stylist, a motivator, life coach and speaker who supports people to transform their lives from the inside out.

Michelle’s powerful self-love practices:

  • Affirmations spoken out loud in front of the mirror
  • Prayer - which helps you to connect with the universe
  • Recognize that divinity is already within you
  • Forgive yourself and others
  • Cultivate trust in your intuition and in the flow of life
  • Prepare your food at home and put love into that food

Alana Haldan

Vegan recipe developer, food photographer and blogger behind Sprouts and Krauts. Alana turns the produce from her garden into delicious, colorful, plant-based food.

Making the shift to veganism completely changed Alana’s life journey. She originally tried veganism because she wanted a quick fix to get fit and lose weight before a big event. But within a few weeks, she saw the ethical and environmental aspects it was having and that’s what kept her on the path. From being a graphic designer, she went back to school to learn how to implement vegan cooking and nutrition in her life and share it with the world.

Now, she runs the vegan blog sproutsandkrauts, which is all about fermented foods and recipes made from the produce she grows in her garden.

For Alana, food is all about connection. Being aware of the mind body connection - eating in a way that serves the body and helps you get to your highest self. So many people are stuck in a cycle of eating foods that make them feel sluggish and depressed. But it’s possible to choose foods that enhance health, that nourish the body and nourish the soul. And being vegan doesn’t just help your body, it helps the planet and the animals.

After taking Spirit Junkie Class Digital, Alana learnt to tap into her own potential and know that it’s imperative to share her gifts with the world. It helped her become more aware of her own food triggers and go from using food to numb her emotions to using food to nourish body and soul. Connect with her on Instagram!

Dano González

Yoga and meditation teacher, angel therapist practitioner and oracle card reader, medium, and owner of Numen yoga restaurant.

Dano used to be a carnivore. He ate meat three times a day. But one day he realized he felt angry all the time, and stressed, and anxious, and always sleepy. He began meditating, and that allowed him to realize that what he was putting in his mouth was affecting his entire being. He began to eat more plant foods, and things began to shift.

Did you know meat has no energy, or prana? Worse, it has the energy of the animal that was tortured and killed. Fear, anger, suffering - these energies are in the meat and end up in your body. Organic vegetables, on the other hand, energize you, cleanse you, and improve your intuition.

How to detox and start shifting your health:

  • Eliminate all animal foods from your diet
  • Add green smoothies and green juices
  • Go organic as often as possible
  • Minimize your intake of vegan processed foods
  • Increase your intake of fresh foods

Dano opened his restaurant Nümen to help people eat healthy plant-based foods that are so full of flavor it encourages them to open their minds to make the transition to veganism.

Since Spirit Junkie Masterclass, Dano found his voice, found his story, claimed his power and found a family. The first class he launched afterward the course attracted over 3k followers. “Spirit Junkie helps us be the spiritual leaders that our hearts are calling us to be.” Dano’s advice when it comes to Spirit Junkie: “You have to do it, and your life is going to change for the best.”

If you don’t know what you’re doing, that’s FINE! We’re all just making it up as we go. Most successful people did not know what they were doing, they were just following their passion. You can’t be afraid to stumble on the way.

Jason’s tip:

Look at your business like you look at investing. The more sources of income you have, the more stable your income source. Diversify your investment.  Carve out the uniqueness of who you are and trust that the more of yourself you reveal, the more people will embrace you.

How to start your journey to your dream career:

There’s only love or fear to choose. Do you trust that the Universe has your back? At some point you have to jump from the security of your 9 to 5 to your own business. You have to have trust that you can do it.

  • Trust that you have a story to share
  • Believe in yourself
  • Have a to do list but let go of control (the Universe will help)
  • Trust that it will come as long as you’re persistent - stick at it
  • Rejection is just a stumbling block on the path - don’t be afraid to fail, you have to keep believing
  • Learn self-love - you have to believe that you deserve to live your best life

Remove the blocks to your income and creativity with Soul on Fire Retreats Founder Heather Fantin

Heather is a spiritual breakthrough coach, on a mission to help you heal your relationship with you. She’s just launched her year-long personal group coaching program called the Inner Circle. Check out Episode 156 for her inspiring story.

Alli and Heather met at Level 2 Spirit Junkie Master Class. For Heather, Spirit Junkies are a global movement of people returning to love and sharing that with the wider world. More and more of us are waking up. If there’s something inside you that’s feeling unsettled, if you feel like there must be something more to life than this. Even if you’re not clear on your future, there’s yearning for deeper meaning and direction. When this happens, you will be guided to your new path, you’ll be guided to the teachers you need.

The number one thing people struggle with when they start their heart-centered business is feeling like it’s not ok to charge for their services. You’ve got to get over that. There’s nothing spiritual about you not being able to pay your rent.

The first step is awareness. Tune in and get clear about what your belief is around money and making money for something that you love. Write them down, look at them. You’ll probably find most of these beliefs aren’t even yours, they come from things you heard in your childhood. Let them go, forgive them, release them.

Use the same technique to look at what’s holding you back. Are you avoiding showing up? Are you spending all your time binge-watching Netflix? Do you feel stuck? Are you comparing yourself so much that you feel paralyzed? Can you turn your fear into faith? You’re not working alone - the Universe is always supporting you.

Once you’ve released those limiting beliefs, it’s time to create your new story. What’s the opposite, positive, empowering belief? Write it down. This creates affirmations that will work, because you’ve done the deep work to support them. Give yourself permission to follow your dreams and to succeed. Look for evidence that supports your new beliefs. Trust that when you start looking, the Universe will give you what you need, whether it’s inspiration, teachers, guidance or opportunities.

You must go beyond just speaking the words. You need to get into a feeling state. Because the universe responds to the feeling, not the words. Affirmations won’t work if you’re not feeling them. See yourself living your perfect life, visualize as many details, feelings, emotions as you can - how will you feel when you live that life?

Most importantly, get rid of the guilt you might feel for wanting to do what you love. Remember - it’s bigger than you. You’re doing the world a disservice by keeping your unique gifts to yourself. This is your higher calling to help heal others and help heal the world. Whatever this calling looks like to you - it might be music, it might be food, it might be healing, it might be teaching, it might be anything at all. Just be authentically you, trust that you’re right where you need to be and that you are always being guided.

Make Your Passion Your Paycheck with Alida McDaniel

Alida is an intuitive life strategist, personal trainer and culinary artist on a mission to help people thrive doing what they love. Check out her story on Episodes 43, 65 and 80 to find out how she lost 80 pounds and healed herself of a multitude of health issues.

We all want to escape the 9 to 5…. But we’re afraid of what that looks like, especially from a financial perspective. When passion becomes your paycheck, your money mindset shifts. Instead of seeing it as evil something you get after you sit at a desk being bored, money becomes something you receive for doing something that you love. That is a powerful change.

It’s time to stop seeing money as something evil, something to feel guilty about. Non-profits need to make money to help change the world. So why not be that person who makes so much money that you can fund the non-profits?

Living your passion does not necessarily mean setting up on your own - you might be an independent contractor, a writer, a maker, a teacher. You just have to find that thing that makes you smile, that makes your heart sing. The moment you step into passion, the universe responds in kind.

So how do you start living in passion? Here are Alida’s top tips:

  • Don’t let yourself get out of bed until you have imagined what you want your day to be (don’t list your tasks, see yourself achieving your goals and how good that feels)
  • Ask spirit “what can I learn today?”
  • Believe and trust - keep telling yourself what you want and trust that it’s on its way.

Your gift of passion is meant to be shared with the world. Who are you to deny that gift? Don’t procrastinate. Don’t prevent yourself from receiving that abundance. The world needs your unique talents.

If you’re struggling with your health, chances are it started in your gut. Supporting your microbiome is the first step towards optimal wellness.

What’s in your gut?

What is your microbiome? Basically, it’s the community of friendly bacteria living in your gut. And they rule everything - from releasing hormones and neurotransmitters, to affecting how you think and feel. If you take care of them, they will take care of you.

The gut keeps you safe from autoimmune conditions, like multiple sclerosis, and chronic diseases. Why? First, you need to know that 70% of your immune system is in your gut. Inflammation, which is the root cause of disease, begins in the gut microbiome. Your gut bacteria creates inflammatory responses as a result of certain triggers - usually a combination of diet, stress, medications, toxins etc. Chronic inflammation happens when the immune system doesn’t shut off this response, and ends up attacking itself.

By giving the microbiome what it needs, you can stop this inflammatory response, and reverse chronic disease and autoimmune conditions.

The composition of your gut is completely unique to you. That means that your journey to healing will be different to someone else’s. It’s no use simply jumping on the latest health trend. You need to take a closer look at your body to work out the approaches that will work for you. This means working with someone who understands the gut microbiome and how to heal it.

The Gut Doctor

Dr. Marvin Singh is an integrative gastroenterologist. He went to med school, but he wasn’t a healthy doctor. He was overweight and had early signs of fatty liver disease. As he reflected on this, he realized how little he knew about nutrition. So he enrolled in an integrative medicine fellowship, and discovered there’s more to health than the standard pharmaceutical methods. He began applying what he’d learnt to his own life and within 3 months he had lost 40 pounds. He realized he could help people heal themselves by taking a comprehensive approach - one that brings together nutrition, genetics and meditation. So now he combines some of the conventional methods with holistic, integrative medicine and nutritional genetics to guide his patients back towards total wellness.

Your Lifestyle and Your Gut

Although we’re all different, we all share one commonality: if you give your body the chance to do what it wants to do, what it’s naturally designed to do, then it will do the best it can. The body is designed to heal itself if you give it the tools it needs. And while those tools differ slightly from person to person, there are certain common approaches that will work for everyone. Diet and nutrition play a huge role, but so does your overall quality of life. Dr. Singh begins with a back to basics look at your lifestyle:

  • How are you sleeping?
  • How much are you exercising?
  • Are you having fun?
  • Are you stressed?

Dr. Singh’s Tips for Healing:

  • Take it easy in the beginning, trying to do everything at once will be too overwhelming and cause stress.
  • Start with one or two changes a week.
  • Give up sugar - sugar feeds the bad bacteria in your gut and creates microbiome imbalances.
  • Fill up on fiber - fiber feeds the good bacteria in your gut and helps it produce healing chemicals.
  • Reduce stress - stress chronically suppresses the diversity of your microbiome. Your thoughts can change the composition of your microbiome. At the same time, the composition of your microbiome can change your thoughts and emotions. It’s a two-way super highway. That’s why meditation and mindset are a key part of healing.
  • Nutritional genetics will work out your genes, microbiome composition and food sensitivities to help you find which foods are best for you.
  • Work with a doctor who understands the microbiome - like Dr. Singh!

Dr. Singh’s message is an optimistic one: everyone can get well, you just have to work with someone who understands you and helps you get to that point. Remember that the path to wellness is not a punishment, you can have fun while learning and trying new things. Check out Dr. Singh’s free e-book, the 4-Week Gut Reset, or send him a message on social media.
