World renowned keynote speaker, best-selling author, world traveler… and she recently got engaged in Bali after one of the most epic proposal stories we’ve ever heard! But Sahara Rose wasn’t always a glowing picture of health and success.
In fact, she went through a really tough time - she didn’t have periods, lost her hair, suffered from bloating and constipation. No one could find the cause or cure the problem. Until one day she read about the Vata dosha - it was like reading her autobiography. Following ayurvedic practices to bring this dosha back into balance, Sahara regained her health.
But it was hard - Ayurveda processes are old school, and many don’t work for today’s busy lifestyles. So Sahara decided to redesign these ancient practices to fit the modern world.
Her two books - The Idiot’s guide to Ayurveda, and Eat Feel Fresh (with a foreword by Deepak Chopra!) offer simple and easy to follow strategies to get your doshas, and your health, back into balance.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is over 5000 years old; it’s the world’s oldest heath system. It means “the knowledge of life.” Ayurveda involves your entire life in order to heal you: nutrition, digestion, self-care, movement, morning rituals, your environment, your relationships, and your purpose.
What Dosha Are You?
Dosha means energy. In Ayurveda, we’re all made up of three energies from the elements space, air, fire, water and earth. The three doshas are Vata (air and space), Pita (fire and water) and Katha (earth and water).
Mind: creative, artistic, go with the flow, visionary… but if unbalanced: difficulty coming down to earth, anxiety, everything up in the air, head in the clouds, not liking a set schedule
Body: lean, flexible… but if unbalanced: cold skin, slow digestion, bloating, cracking joints, unbalanced appetite, dry skin.
Mind: feisty, high energy, driven, business-minded, regimented, likes routine, motivated…. But if unbalanced: angry, aggressive.
Body: strong and athletic… but if unbalanced: high risk of inflammation, heart burn, acne, rashes.
Mind: calm, peaceful, very giving… but if unbalanced: gives too much, unable to set boundaries, people pleaser.
Body: solid, endurance… but if unbalanced: lethargic and prone to increased mucous.
We are all a combination of all three of these doshas, in varying amounts. What’s more, these doshas may change depending on where you are in your life. Ayurveda heals the doshas within us so that we can rebalance our health.
To find out your dosha, take the quiz on Sahara’s website.
How to Rebalance Your Dosha:
Warm, grounding foods - think roots! Stay away from excessively cold foods.
Cooling, alkalizing foods - more leafy greens, bitter veg, coconut. Avoid spicy foods.
Stimulating foods - warming spices to rev up metabolism.
In her latest book, Eat Feel Fresh, Sahara makes it easy to incorporate this ancient healing practice into your life with over 100 ayurvedic plant-based recipes. Her other book, An Idiot’s Guide to Ayurveda contains all the self-care and lifestyle strategies to take your health to the next level. Check out Sahara’s podcast, Highest Self.

You’re only 10% human. Yes, really.
Just over a decade ago, doctors believed there were around 200 species of bacteria living on and in the human body. We now know there are over 30,000 species. We have a community of 100 trillion microorganisms in our gut. That is 10 times the number of human cells in the body. This basically means we’re 10% human, 90% bacteria!
The microbiome was an unknown entity, but now science has shown it to be a game changer. It’s an integral part of our health, and if we can support it, we can thrive.
We are in a synergistic relationship with the microorganisms in our body - we need them to survive, and they need us. They’ve been a part of us since the beginning of human evolution. But we’re bailing on them right now. In the last century, we’ve stopped taking care of them. Our diets (the chemicals we use to process our food), environment (the chemicals we use to clean our homes), lifestyles (lack of sleep, lack of movement, stress), medications (antibiotics) - destroy the delicate microbiome we rely on for health.
Doctor Will Bulsiewicz, also known as Dr. B, is an internal medicine doctor and expert gastroenterologist. While his conventional medicine training did not include any nutrition study, science was emerging about the power of diet to treat gastrointestinal disease. So he began studying it in his own time and discovered the untapped potential of a healthy gut. Having witnessed amazing results with his patients, he decided to spread the word beyond his clinic. The Gut Health MD was born.

Could mold be affecting your health? Mold is a tricky thing. It’s affected people since the dawn of time - but conventional medicine rarely addresses it. But it is a serious issue. Mold produces mycotoxins that can drive up estrogen levels, overburden the body with toxicity and elevate inflammation - so if you’re sensitive to mold (25% of people have the gene that make them sensitive) other symptoms will appear, like frequent illness, more allergies, exhaustion and hormonal issues.
Jenn Malecha’s healing journey had bumps along the way. She’d had a pretty healthy up-bringing - garden, vegetables, an active lifestyle. But when she got to college, the long hours and stress caused by studying and working crazy hours caused her health to decline. Then, at just 25, and having never been a sun-worshipper, Jenn was diagnosed with skin cancer. She knew it had to be caused by her environment and lifestyle. Functional tests revealed that she had high oxidative stress, a clogged-up liver, and adrenal dysfunction. So she tackled all those things, and felt like herself again…
Until five years later. She began gaining weight, her periods were all over the place, she had candida overgrowth and inflamed breasts. She went to experts, who were unable to tell her what was going on. Until one day she opened the cupboard near her work desk and there was black mold everywhere. Toxic mold had devastated her health. Having understood what was causing these issues, she began rebalancing her health. She became the boss of her health instead of relying on doctors. She now empowers others to have that same connection with their body.
Here are some of the strategies she used to free her home and her body from mold:

New year, new you! We always feel like a makeover is needed in January. So what better way to begin 2019 than with style coach Kimberly Seltzer?
You might not realize it, but your outfits are more than just clothes. They say a lot about you. They can keep you feeling down, block love, and give away your power. Yes, really. Wearing muted colors, going for the bigger size, wrapping up in layers all send a strong message, both to the outside world and to yourself: that you are not confident and are not comfortable in your own skin. From that space, implementing positive change is an uphill struggle.
Often, we’re told that if we work on what’s on the inside - our mindset - we can transform what’s on the outside. But this can work the other way too: a great outfit can make you feel empowered, and over time this boosts your confidence and improves your mindset, so you can attract what you want - whether it’s in love or in business. If you work on both your mindset and your wardrobe, transformation gets much faster. Kim knows about this first-hand.
Twenty years ago, she was a traditional therapist - in other words, she was totally focused on the inner work side of things. But life happened, she got a divorce. Life as she knew it was over. Her mood was so low she couldn’t even get out of bed, let alone be a helpful therapist. Despite her knowledge of talking therapy, she couldn’t get out of her own way or change how she felt. One day, she looked in the mirror. And she was horrified. Frumpy, wearing oversized clothes, a nursing bra and Birkenstocks. She looked like her mindset: sad, and hiding in a cocoon of black. So she went shopping. Luckily, a personal shopper saw her picking out her usual uniform and intervened with a sexy little red dress. This chance encounter changed Kim’s life forever. She suddenly felt like herself again. Her confidence started growing. And the rest is history. Now, Kim is determined to help others reconnect with themselves and find their perfect partner.
