Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year! I hope you're enjoying some time with the people you love.

It's a time for family, fun festivities, cooking, baking, and gift-giving. But it's also a time that can bring up a list of traumas to the surface, challenge us, and remind us of those we have lost who aren't with us to celebrate.

And it can give us pause for self-reflection: What do we want to bring in the new year, and what do we want to leave behind? What do we want to create? Who do we want to be? What do we want to change? This can bring up both worry and excitement.

So, that's what today's episode is going to dive into—setting intentions for a brand new year. First, I'll be sharing my 3 TOOLS for getting into ALIGNMENT with your intentions. Not just setting them, but the tools to get into alignment to make sure they happen—with grace and ease.

Then, I'll be speaking with Dilan Abeya, who says that working on aspects of yourself that “no one can take away from you” is critical: your mindset, character, personality, fitness, and mental well-being.

Dilan turned to fitness after overcoming personal hardships, and finding strength and focus in regular gym sessions. His candid journey, shared transparently on Instagram, not only motivates but also highlights his dedication to coaching and helping others.

What are aminos, and why are they vitally important for plant-based dieters? How does building muscle help us age in reverse? What are Kion aminos, and why are they essential to our health?

These questions and more are answered by CEO of Kion, Angelo Keely, on today's episode of Food Heals.

Angelo Keely was born in Austin, Texas, and raised there on a foundation of organic, mostly vegetarian whole foods, along with an array of supplements.

After surviving a stabbing and being left for dead, he woke up in the hospital with a completely new outlook on life. Angelo delved deeply into science, nutrition, meditation, yoga, breathwork, cold/heat therapy, acupuncture, and the body's innate ability to heal itself.

Driven by the dream of fostering the healthiest and most inspiring work culture within a rapidly growing consumer products company, Angelo co-founded Kion in 2017 in Boulder, Colorado.

Kion offers premium, clean, research-backed supplements and foods—with a focus on AMINOS as the building blocks of health—that support a long and active life.

How might psychedelics, also known as plant medicine, revolutionize our approach to mental health by offering swift healing for lifelong trauma and PTSD for people in traumatic jobs such as police officers without the need for prolonged traditional therapy? What are the legal ramifications of growing and consuming plant medicine?

Asking questions like these is what led to this three part series on Food Heals where we are discussing how plant medicine can help us heal. In this series you are hearing brand new interviews with leading experts in the field of psychedelics who share their personal healing journey as well as how you can access the power of plants to heal yourself as well - Maybe you heard out last episode with Derek the founder Pachamama Sanctuary, and you are ready for your own Ayahuasca retreat or perhaps you want to grow plant medicine at home like Paul taught us in the first episode in the series. Or perhaps you'll be inspired by today's guest current clothing designer and former police officer Nick Motycka who healed 15 years worth of job-related trauma.

Nick Motycka was a police officer who was suffering from job related trauma and PTSD. Traditional therapies didn't work, so he explored plant medicine. In a breakthrough session, he processed 15 years of trauma in one day, shifting from severe PTSD to no longer meeting the criteria for a diagnosis. His mind was blown. Now free from trauma's effects, Nick resigned from law enforcement, aligning his life with his values, and founded a clothing company, Flow State Designs.

Flow State Designs isn't just about clothes; it's a lifestyle. Nick focuses on using the best textiles, made by workers earning fair wages in Canada, minimizing environmental impact. His hope is that the brand enhances well-being and helps individuals find their unique flow in life.

Despite their controversial reputation, psychedelics are being widely used by doctors, shamans, retreat leaders, and more across the world to treat trauma and PTSD. Whether it's Psilocybin, Ayahuasca, or another form of plant medicine, rapid healing can occur when using these medicinal plants. So, how do we learn to unlock the rapid healing power of these psychedelics? Imagine addressing lifelong trauma, PTSD, addiction, and more within minutes, without the need for years of traditional therapy.

Contemplating questions like these inspired this three-part series on Food Heals, where we discuss the healing power of plant medicine. In this series, you'll hear brand-new interviews with leading experts in the field of psychedelics who share their personal healing journey, as well as how you can access the power of plants to heal yourself. Whether you want to grow medicine at home like Paul taught us last time or go to a retreat center like Derek will tell us about today, there is an option for you to explore if plant medicine is right for you.

In the first episode of this series, you heard from Paul Austin, the CEO of Third Wave, a pioneer reshaping our perceptions of psychedelics and guiding on growing your own plant medicine at home.

In today's episode, part two of our series, I'm talking to Derek Januszewski, the founder of Pachamama Sanctuary, an Ayahuasca retreat center. He'll share the story of how plant medicine assisted in his journey to overcome childhood abuse and a decade-long battle with addiction.

Through intense inner work, extensive engagement with medicine, and countless hours of service, Derek has healed much of his trauma. The spiritual healing he received through plant medicine inspired him to start Pachamama Sanctuary, aiming to help others find their own path to health and happiness.

Pachamama Sanctuary, an Ayahuasca center in Southern Maine, was founded in 2019. Since its inception, its mission has been to elevate collective consciousness through the sacrament of Ayahuasca—a tea derived from plants in the Amazon rainforest. It has facilitated profound insights and clarity into past traumas, offering a chance for peace, especially for those grappling with addiction, PTSD, or negative cycles.

Stay tuned for part 3, where I speak with former police officer Nick Motycka, who healed 15 years' worth of job-related trauma. He transitioned from being clinically diagnosed with severe PTSD to no longer meeting the criteria for a diagnosis through the use of plant medicine.
