On today's solo episode, I dig into the topic of why it's important to know what you're teaching for. A while back, I wrote a blog post called "Why You Should Never Teach for a 'Maybe'". I wrote this post at a time when I was in an unconventional teaching agreement with a studio owner, and I was no longer receiving a monetary amount for my teaching. My business coach was uncomfortable, and I was thinking nothing of it. As time went on, I kept coming back to that situation. I trusted the person I was working with, and although everything worked out perfectly, it might not have.
Since then, I have taught a karma class that I thought I was getting paid for that I actually wasn't, and I have heard numerous stories from people where there have been misunderstandings about payment. That's where this episode comes in.
In this episode, I delve into why it's important to understand what you're teaching for before you teach, and why yoga should always be a business transaction. Money can be an uncomfortable topic to discuss, and this episode is no different; however, I truly believe that if you want to make a living being a yoga teacher, you need to get comfortable expressing your needs beforehand.
In any other job situation, you would clarify payment before starting, right? So why is teaching yoga any different? Truth be told, it's not. And this is why this episode is so important.

Do you want to take your teaching from the general population to helping people with sickness and disease? Lara Benusis did too.
Lara grew up with a mother with MS who practiced yoga, and so her yoga practice began at a young age. After many years as a professional dancer and a yoga teacher, Lara moved towards teaching yoga to people who were sick, as well as people who were healthy. For a number of years, she worked at a major cancer center in New York, and on today's episode, she's sharing her story.
This episode is a little bit different from some of the other episodes of M.B.Om because we don't focus as much on the business aspect of Lara's career. Instead, she shares how began teaching yoga to the cancer population, what her research in this department is showing about the benefits of yoga for the cancer population, and much more.
