Can mouth breathing affect eczema? (S5E7) 0

In this episode, my guest talks all about how mouth breathing is tied to eczema, skin issues and the overall health of the rest of the body. We also discuss 2 research studies that specifically studied the link between mouth breathing and eczema (links below).

Mouth breathing can be related to:
  • Asthma & atopic dermatitis
  • Facial development changes (long narrow face & narrow mouth)
  • Crooked/crowded teeth & braces
  • Sleep interruption
  • Reduced oxygen levels
  • A tongue-tie
In children, interrupted breathing during sleep can have severe effects on brain growth.

How can activated charcoal help reduce an eczema flare? (S5E6) 0

This is a clip from S4E3, where Dr. Matthew J Zirwas talked about how activated charcoal can help reduce an eczema flare. (Although he doesn't share about topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) - I have seen people use activated charcoal for their skin as well). Dr. Zirwas is a nationally recognized expert in eczema, psoriasis, and contact dermatitis, who practices at Bexley Dermatology in Bexley, Ohio. He received his undergraduate and medical school degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Pittsburgh as well, developing an interest in contact dermatitis during his residency which led to additional training at Penn State University and the Cleveland Clinic. Dr Zirwas has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles and is one of the authors of the 7th Edition of Fisher's Contact Dermatitis. His interests focus on clinical trials, adult atopic dermatitis, pruritus and urticaria, allergic and irritant contact dermatitis, and rosacea.
