Due
to the rapidly-unfolding series of scandals surrounding Jerry
Falwell Jr--and his wife Becki--I turned to one of the most
qualified people out there who could knowledgeably discuss this
story: Kristin Kobes Du Mez, recent guest and author of the recent
book Jesus and John Wayne.
Kristin and I try to make sense of the narratives
swirling around the many scandals that have not only dogged Falwell
Jr for years now, we want to know: why has it take this long for
him to be removed as the president of Liberty University? And how
does it fit into the larger picture of evangelical toxic
masculinity and biblical patriarchy, of which Falwell Jr may have
indeed served as a poster boy for years now.
