"From all time, for all time- these are our ancestral homelands..."

This month it's an absolute privilege to have Beth Piatote join us for a special podcast episode. Beth is the author of The Beadworkers, the 2022 Everybody Reads selection. Please visit http://www.everybody-reads.org for a full schedule of events, discussion questions and read-alikes.

Beth Piatote's story collection The Beadworkers grounds its stories in the landscapes and lifeworlds of Native Idaho and the Northwest, exploring the inventive and unforgettable pattern of Native American life in the contemporary world. Told with humor, subtlety, and spareness, the mixed-genre works of this short story collection find unifying themes in the strength of kinship, the pulse of longing, and the language of return.

Everybody Reads encourages residents from across the Palouse and Lewiston-Clarkston Valley to read the featured title, discuss it with others and attend an event in their community. This year’s events will be held from November 1 – 4. You can find a full calendar of events on the Everybody Reads website.

Residents can pick up their copy of The Beadworkers at local libraries and bookstores!

Below is a list of authors that Beth recommends, with links to Neill Public Library's catalog. We are working on getting books from more of these authors as soon as we can!

Many thanks to Washington State University and the Nez Perce National Historical Park Archives and Research Center for making the music for this episode available online
