Meniscus repair and patient age over 60 are not commonly associated in orthopaedic sports medicine surgery.  However, in the right patient, meniscus repair is the right choice.  Dr. Daniel Saris, MD of the Mayo Clinic joins us to discuss his study “Benefits of Meniscal Repair in Selected Patients Aged 60 Years and Older,” published in OJSM in September.  He discusses individualization of care, and that while it is true that most older patients are not candidates for meniscus repair, select patients in this age demographic can succeed with repair particularly when compared to the results of the alternatives.
