The original southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail was at the
summit of Mount Oglethorpe in Georgia. But that changed in 1958
when the Appalachian Trail Conservancy agreed to move the terminus
to Springer Mountain because of...(wait for it)...chickens. Really.
