GRAMMY-nominated Allison Russell joins the Tennessee Theatre on this special sneak peek episode. Allison discusses her work on Love Rising, recent gun violence that has impacted Nashville and the entire country, as well the role arts can play in making changes. Allison Russell is a Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet, and activist. She released her first solo album, Outside Child, in 2021 and we feature the following songs from that album: “Nightflyer,” “4th Day Prayer,” and “Persephone.” The ending song is “You're Not Alone” featuring Brandi Carlile and was released as a single in 2022.
Pass the Mic: Creating a Stage for Change provides an opportunity for artists from marginalized and underserved communities to share their art with others. Through concerts/performances, visual art displays, discussions and panels focusing on important issues, and educational opportunities, artists have the chance to engage with the community. The Tennessee Theatre is proud to provide a space for audiences and artists to better understand one another. This podcast is produced by the Historic Tennessee Theatre and Cecilia Wright, and engineered and edited by Ben McLaughlin. Music composition, sound design, and additional production assistance is provided by William Wright. This project is being supported in part by The Tennessee Arts Commission.
