David had many enemies. David was a warrior and he faced many spiritual and physical battles during his lifetime. His enemies hated him because he was chosen by God to fulfill His purposes in the earth. David's enemies opposed him because they desired to stop God's will from being fulfilled. However, God protected David and gave him victory over all his enemies. Psalm 23:5a says, "You prepare a table before me in the presence of our enemies," (NIV).
